If only they had shown it in a color besides orange. Maybe that nice blue they showed off the sedan in.
It’s about damn time GM gave us a hatchback in this segment, given the last one was the barely-sold Astra.
Now then, time to shove the 2.0T EcoTec and a 6-speed in there, alright guys?

SS or GTFO

It’s definitely the best looking American hatchback out there IMO.

I’d hoon a Cruze SS with the 2.0. Give it the magnetic shocks and make sure it kicks the FoST’s ass on the track.

I like the orange. I’d consider one if they gave it the 2.0 and true lsd like the VXR.

SS the car or SS the trim level?
(Trim level, I know.) I really wish it wasn’t the name of a car, though. Same thing with Ford’s “GT”. It really grinds my gears when I find out they were just talking about a Mustang after all. If Dodge comes out with a new car called the “Dodge Hemi” I might just lose it.

The rest of the world did get the previous (and not so pretty) cruze hatchback:

I really, really like this one.
I know others are asking for SS models - doesn’t Chevy use RS for lower end vehicles? Or is RS generally just an appearance package?
Either way, this is a good base to provide some competition to the Ford Focus ST.

RS is generally just an appearance package. Maybe some lowering springs but otherwise just visual stuff.

It looks pretty nice.

I believe the RS package also gives the Sonic a lower final drive ratio for better acceleration, but that's about it.

But I like that orange...

Oh yeah, the manual does get a shorter final drive. The auto is the same as the standard car though.

I see some Volvo lines in the back half of the car.

It’s okay, I’m just not an orange kind of person generally.

RS is an appearance package. For example on the Camaro you can add it to all the trim levels, so you could have an RS SS.

Yeah I was thinking of that Sonic RS which didn’t have any extra power but was an appearance pack, although someone else mentioned the change in gear ratio for better acceleration.

Orange doesn’t often work on GM products. They had one lovely burnt orange a few years ago that paired off well with the Avalanche/Suburban/Tahoe, but otherwise there isn’t much.
Dodge on the other hand... Their stuff goes really well with unusual colours. And they seem to know it :)

Am I the only person on the planet who loves that color?
