Don’t expect it to be fast. (Although compared to say a Tercel wagon or an ancient Toyota Pickup it’s probably a rocket ship)

Well they do look amazing. Rust and automatic climate control issues are the problems with the SLs of similar vintage. Running gear is common with tons of other MBs.

And it looks like it has manual HVAC in pics so you are good there. So main enemy is rust.

I assure you, 5-speed makes any slow car feel normal! But all these old Mercs in my area are automatics... sometimes a 3-speed auto even. Terrifying.

Yeah I was looking at SLs too and there did seem to be a fair amount of rusty ones... one ad also mentioned the “usual merc climate control” problem.

Big Benzes didn’t really start getting fast until the 124/126 iterations.

Theoretically a tin top should be better, especially here, but since it's a Euro spec car it might have seen salt at some point.

If I liked something this old enough, I would crawl underneath before buying it. But something with significantly less rust than the Tercel would be preferrable.

Who needs speed when you have class, amirite?

Ha yeah those things rusted faster than a Lancia Beta.

From what I understand, marginally faster than the diesels. Marginally less long lived but still damn reliable.
