I feel like such a peasant because I only have headlight washers but no wipers

That’s the new trend, I don’t think there’s any current production car with headlights wipers. Volvo was probably the last company to have them.

Headlamp washers are required to sell a vehicle in Europe. Some OEMs prefer to just punch a hole in the fascia and slap em on for Euro cars only, some just make it common across the board.

Outside of snow, which melts off anyway (at least until LEDs are used), do headlight wipers make any difference? I just can’t see there being that big of a difference with rain, but I’ve never had a vehicle with them.

I feel like this should be added to the Jalop scoring (even though I think it never should make anyone feel excluded, it’s just entertainment). It would make my formerly Swedish tendencies rank higher.
But seriously they broke on my dad’s 900, my 9-3, and my S80 (though only on one side) from being a little too aggressive with the ice scraper I suppose, but they still had the arms just no wiper. I enjoyed seeing them make shadow puppets when I would drive at night in the rain.

On that Volvo 99, is that seriously a tiny wire that retracts the wiper arm? Wow.
Another thought, something quirkier than headlight wipers? What about having to have the car in reverse to take out the key?
Or, my favorite “quirk” in cars is the Nintendo-inspired programming changes you can make, like resetting oil reminders or, in my 2001 Suburban, turning off the automatic headlights by pressing and releasing the dome light kill switch 4 times. Really. An unrelated button, 4 times.
That might be a good question... hmm

Swedish over-engineering at its best.

I see it being pretty useful when dealing with melting snow/slush.

I would have probably said 3.0 CSi on the BMW side although not many actually had them as I understand it. (This one’s had an engine swap like mine, but unlike mine they added some badging.)

Salt from roads in the winter sets like concrete on headlights, have has it happen many times to me.

That’s odd, you guys must be dropping a lot of salt. I’ve never noticed a diminished output from salt in the winter here. How much of a difference does it make if you don’t turn the wipers on?

My ‘87 300D had them. At least they didn’t break.

They can lay it on thick when we have bad winters, no idea about the effectiveness of wipers, the high pressure spray ones on my old Mazda 3 did a great job of cleaning it off though.

No love for the 850 :(

They aren’t required for all, only for cars with xenon headlamps along with a self levelling system. Halogens don’t need them. (Source-I’m British)

Yes, so it’s basically been applied to all new cars since everyone is slapping HIDs on everything. Source- I work on new cars and forget about old ones

Take it from someone who lives here, there’s plenty of cars without HID lights, VW for example, the every polo with the exception of the GTI and R line is halogen,Golf is halogen except for GTI, GTD and R. No need to be condescending, I just pointed out you were incorrect. I studied automotive engineering and whilst I’m in oil and gas now I can see new cars without HID lights.

Clearly not the one that truly matters!

the 850 would be pretty far on the list

You need to recheck your priorities.

I would take this before

And you’d still be wrong.
