I wish more of Jalop articles were in a similar format. The writer takes their vehicle and do stupid crap with it. Where are all my Baja Bug stories?

Agreed on all counts. I’m not a DeMuro worshipper, either, but at least he does fun and interesting stuff. I just wish he did it with more fun and interesting cars, and with a more refined sense of humor.

Yeah drag racing the hummer is much like merging into traffic with the hummer

Stay tuned. This past weekend I drove a 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost as the course opening car at Black River Stages. Spoiler: Pirelli P Zeros are excellent on tarmac but not so much on gravel...

Douglas is registered as a company.
His cars are expenses and allow him to create content that he sells to Gawker media.
Raphael Orlove is not compensated for his stunts. He still haven’t finish paying for the rollover, he can’t afford to do as much a as professional like Douglas.

I’m with you. It seem like, other than reviews, most articles are about other people doing things with cars or about the car business . It would be nice to hear some first hand adventures from the staff.

I’m not a big fan of some of Demuro’s videos, they come across a bit ‘Look at me s0 RAnD0m’.
There are some good ones though

I really enjoy his articles but I don’t enjoy his videos as much. I find his style of humour is better suited to writing. Like you, I do wish there were some more entertaining articles like this, I did like reading about Doug's experience with his Ferrari, importing his R32, and his many CarMax experiences. I also like the fact that his cars aren't impossibly expensive exotics, but rather cars that are attainable to regular people (although the 360 is a bit of a stretch).

And this is why Oppo is better.

Most of the staff must own functioning cars. Right?

What do you want, man?
2011 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon
2004 Ferrari 360 Modena
1995 Hummer
1990 Nissan Skyline GT-R
I’ve driven across the country, bought a Ferrari, crushed a PT cruiser, and imported a car from Japan. If you can’t find a “fun and interesting car” in that lot, I can’t help you.

Indeed. The goal is to purchase cars that everyone wants to know what it’s like to drive, but nobody wants to own themselves. So far it has gone well.

Your experience makes me want to purchase a JDM import once I’m in a better financial situation, rather than a new sports car - since I’m in Canada, our import rule is only 15 years so it opens up some more options. I think the biggest problem in my province is trying to get insurance for a right-hand drive vehicle - Ontario insurance premiums are already ludicrous in some cities, and I’m sure the ones that will insure RHD cars will have an even more ludicrous surcharge.
Also, if possible, I’d like for you to always have a vehicle from CarMax if you ever get rid of the Ranger Rover. I love those CarMax articles; maybe a Jaguar should be the next purchase from them.

I would kill for a 15-year import rule! You should take full advantage.
The CarMax stories are always my most popular. Maybe for the next car I will get something else cool from them...

Hey, I said you do fun and interesting stuff. Maybe if you combined all those into one giant mega car centipede I’d get more excited. Or, if you had crushed the Hummer with the PT Cruiser. No one’s seen that before.

Haha. Well, barring physically impossible things, I hope you at least like some of these stunts!!!

The one thing I would suggest to Doug if he ever asked me would be to work on his interview style in his “basement” videos with guests. It’s really important to slow down your speech and not talk over or interrupt your guests when they speak. Otherwise, it makes it difficult for a viewer to follow a conversation.
I think his prepared videos are good (although diction could be better), and his writing is great. Many humorists have their best medium, and I think writing is Doug’s.

The stunts I enjoy. It’s with the cars that I was looking for something more provocative. Like, did you know they make a Prius wagon ? Let’s push the envelope a bit, Double-D.
Seriously, though, I’m just a weird car snob. I’m mighty impressed and a little jealous at the empire you’ve built doing something you so clearly get a giant kick out of doing. Just don’t put those flip-flops back on, or you’re on my list again.
