There seems to be multiple groups of people stealing designs straight from the Blipshift website, including some of my designs. Is there anything I can do about it? All the designs are exact copies taken without consent and it’s pissing me off (and I’m rarely pissed off). I know there are a few ex-/current Blipshift designers out there, so I’d like to know your opinion on the matter.
Here’s a few that I found:
Car Addicts Club [ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ] [ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ]
Gear Driven Apparel [ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ] [ !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ]
and I’m pretty sure there’s more out there...
and my design they stole and reaped money from:

You have to send a cease and desist order.
In the case of the shirt company you can likely sue

Opinion about this? Simple: Pathetic. Theft.
Your awesome Gary (how did I miss that one!) isn’t on the actual Geardrivenapparel.com site though, maybe they just use it to redirect people to their site. And that’s pathetic as well.

I live in New Zealand though...where do I start?

I’d try contacting Blipshift about that. Chasing down copyright offenders ought to be as much part of their job as printing t-shirts.

Google copyright lawyers both in your country and wherever the shirt company is based. Nearly any lawyer will talk to you to let you know if you have a case without charging.
Not sure if a lawyer in your country has to send the order or if the country of the offender.

I was going to, but then I figured that I’m still the one who owns the work, and I’m letting Blipshift use the design. I guess it’ll still be worth a try to see how it goes...

Better start calling your lawyer then. I don’t know what you did with the intellectual property on this one when you sent it to Blipshift though. Could be that you transferred the rights to them and geardrivenapparel is getting it there?

Under the Blipshift T&Cs I own the artwork at let them print it. Unless they broken their own terms and conditions (which I highly doubt).

If nothing else, they could at least point you in the direction of a copyright attorney they have worked with before.
Do you call them barristers down there like they do in the UK?
![]() 09/22/2015 at 08:52 |

Then there’s only one road. To court you go. Basterds.

lawyers, attorney, or barristers, they’re the same thing to me!

I’ll totes drive a W196 or SLR and every 1967 F1 ever with a tee, pants (all Uniqlo, BTW), and retro helmet and goggles. And only those.

My dream as well. Hopefully, without the 60 years of age most car collectors are!

Lawyer up and tell them to stop.

yeah, hopefully I can do that. You have to be careful too since you do heaps of stuff as well.

Good news is it appears they’ve only been running for a week or so apparently. A cease and desist order may be all that is necessary.

This one is about a year and a half old so if there is a case, the stronger one would be here I presume but I’m not a lawyer. I hope no Oppo member is responsible.

thanks for the reminder. I should probably save some of the pages for offline use as well.

whois.net is a good tool for some of that, but unfortunately this owner has protected their name and used a godaddy registrar. It shouldn’t be too hard to find though. Good luck.

ToyDeathbot very kindly emailed me about this as well, since Im also affected with The Force Be With You shirt.
I emailed Sebastian at Blipshift and got the following response:
‘Thanks for the tips, the good news is we are a top customer on Shopify so I am hopeful that our attorney working with them can get that site taken down, but it’s like whack-a-mole in that every time we get one site removed another pops up.’
So hopefully CarAddictsClub will be taken down soon (theyre also using the shopify platform to sell).

I’m not sure if Gear Driven Apparel works the same, but I hope it gets sorted out quickly

Also, thanks for doing the emailing and stuff, my brain is melting right now (it’s 2am)

Ive just had a look at their website code and it seems he running WooCommerce which unfortunately is an open source platform.
Godaddy however, which our ‘friend’ Michael is using also has a copyright infringement policy - so if it doesnt get sorted we could contact them:
https://uk.godaddy.com/agreements/sho…
In any case I emailed both to Sebastian so hopefully they can sort something out.

No problem and in fact its a massive thank you to you - I wouldnt have found out otherwise.
Plus this is serious (ive even set aside work at work for this) and us design guys have to stick together!

Vultures. I directed a Twitter comment at Blipshift the other day and within an hour a competing product was messaging me, trying to lure me in. That’s some shitty marketing.

It’s scary to see what the internet is becoming

Ive filled out an Instagram copyright infringement form as well for the CarAddictsClub so at least we hopefully shut down him from popularising his store.
Unfortunately I cant report the other one as my work isnt on their but you can report it to Facebook if you like.

There’s still another way.
Not gonna come cheap, mind you, but they’re just vinyl wraps away...

Maybe you can get a standardised cease and desist letter from a lawyer that you can send to the offenders. Make sure to save any and all evidence when you do. It looks like you and others have already pursued a couple of other avenues so best of luck with that.
On a related note, I wore my Blipshift Turbo Gary shirt at autocross on Saturday and got several compliments and questions on it. I reffered them to Blipshift so I hope they’ll run the design again at some point in one of their garage sales.
Cheers.

Make Blipshift stop discontinuing shit after a week. There are a bunch of designs on there that I would love to buy that have never come up for sale, and I can definitely see how someone without moral scruples would just make their own. Kind of the major drawback with the business model.

So just received an email from CarAddictsClub and theyve removed the shirt with my design.
I think my strong worded messages on email/facebook, telling Instagram of copyright infringement, Blipshift and this post caused him to take it down.
So thanks to the community to bringing it to my attention and hope it works out for Eugene with the other company.
PS - after being caught out he had the cheek to offer me work.
