For those whose idea of social networking is posting on Oppositelock, and who use V6 Ford Mustangs as a unit of financial measurement, there is no greater game than giving yourself an imaginary budget of imaginary money, and going mad with it.
$100,000 is quite the chunk of change, and there are nearly endless possibilities. Do you go for a nice daily and a fun track/offroad car? Do you take the insane route and buy as many used clunkers you can? Or do you do what I would do and go straight to the Chevrolet dealer to buy a new Z06 in cash like a baller?
The choice is up to you. The only rule is: your car, or combination of cars must have feasible selling price of under $100,000. Listings to similar cars to substantiate prices is always encouraged.
Heres your $100,000:
Have fun!

Alternative plan; trade sexual favors with the math tutor for the GTR. Pocket the $100k.

Why buy one new RR when you can by like 4 used ones?
![]() 09/21/2015 at 20:41 |

20 years should give you 4x principal, but worth 1/2 as much due to inflation. Your 400k will buy 200k of Ferrari.

Is there some reason we are not re-investing the interest? I know not living off your investments and working for a living is an alien concept to some folks out there, but not to me. I wouldn’t withdraw the interest at compound time every year if I was only investing such a tiny amount of money.
It’s true that ‘$100k’ has relative value because of inflation. But it’s also true that we can account for the rate of inflation to uncover the value of our money and investments over time.
In a passbook account with no gaining interest, ‘$100k’ is only $56k in 2035 money.
In an investment account yielding 15% without compounded interest (or where you are withdrawing your returns every year), you only have $269k in 2035 money.
And now on the right, we see how costly it can be to withdraw your returns early; 15% with compounded interest will leave you with $797k in 2035 dollars! That’s a $500k gap in real time value! Given the small amount of initial investment, there’s just no freaking way I’m going to throw away $500k in 2035 money just so I can try to live off the relatively tiny returns in interest. We’re not accounting for economic downturns, capital gains taxes, and possible but highly unlikely utter catastrophies (like hyperinflation eating all of our gains and leaving us in debt instead), but that’s a separate discussion for another day.
tl;dr - > I still don’t have enough to buy whatever replaces the LaFerrari replacement, but I could likely get whatever’s going to replace the 488 GTB’s replacement. I’ll settle for that.

I was assuming compounding interest (ie reinvestment) but a 7% return. Find me something yielding 15% now, not to average that for 20 years, and I’m there.
