...maple leaves love you. So does the queen.

I’m catching a ferry to Victoria, BC this morning. Only there for like 5 hours. Is there anything I should photograph or bring back?

After further review of options, I’m renting a car. The one I reserved claims to be a Fiat Panda (uncertain what I’ll actually get). If interesting, will photograph and review.

Two Tim Hortons, across the street from each other

Where is this at? I won't have a car. Landing in downtown.

You probably won’t. It’s a joke. Unlike Starbucks, which in BC, you may find across the street from each other. I know you used to see one in nearly every block of Younge St. in Toronto.

Closest to that with Tim Horton’s (that I have actually seen) is where I live. They had a store in a mall parking lot and the old one across the street before they tore it down. And one in the mall behind the new one.

Not enough space in my bag. Sorry.

Wait...did you mean to type Fiat 500, or Fiat 500L...? The new-gens of Panda (or even the classic Panda, for that matter!) were never ever sold here in Canada...?

A Fiat Panda? Not available for sale in Canada. You’re probably getting the 500 or (shudder) the 500L.

Prob a 500 I would think. Decent little cars, I am quite a fan of them! :)

As for the 500L....yeah....they are a bit of a miss in the looks department, but they are supposed to be OK. I would own one (although I prefer the 500 far more), just not a fan of the odd proportions...

The 500X does much better at a “larger-sized-500” look, I think!

I would buy a Panda in a heartbeat if they were ever sold here though! There’s a reason they are so popular in Europe!. :)

And I got a... Drumroll... 2014 Ford Focus SE Hatchback. Canadian spec ones are definitely more loaded with features than US ones...

But this is not what I got. Ford Focus SE instead, as mentioned below. First experience with the DCT. It hates shifting to second, but it is pretty smooth. Gutless and a pretty mediocre interior in comparison to my car, though...

I like the Focus but can’t stand the interior, including the seats.

The ST isn’t bad, but this was a last-gen SE. The interior of the 2015+ cars are dramatically better, imho. Major upgrades in a lot of areas.

The seats weren’t bad comfort-wise. They even had surprisingly-decent bolstering to match the car’s handling (which is still quite good, even in the non-performance spec). The cruise control interface was really weird and I didn’t like it. In comparison to mine, the cluster interface was slow to the point that it was almost unbearable.

The transmission eventually started acting really weird (after about 60km) and would lose power or shudder erratically. Until then it had excellent fuel economy - the equivalent of about 42mpg. In the end it came back with about 33mpg, including some stop and go traffic. I only went around 100km in it...

The Canadian specs made it better than my car in some respects. I don’t think they come with the big display without navigation in the US, but this one had the same display mine does. It has a back up camera that is offset from centre, but they corrected for the offset (one of my biggest peeves with mine). It also had distance sensors and a slick interface for showing your proximity to objects, which was great in the tight parking spaces. It was better than the proximity sensor setup in modern BMWs, in fact, as it provided more (and more useful) info. This probably explains why the only tiny bit of damage in 16,500 miles I could find on the car was a bit of curb rash on the front left wheel and some scratches from loading/unloading bags...

With a better transmission (manual?) and all the goodies this one had, it would be pretty good.
