Just perusing the FP trying to stay out of the comments when I notice a R&T article. On kinja. With a kinja domain. That’s different...
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
How did they get a “kinja [dot] name [dot] com” address instead of a “name [dot] kinja [dot] com” domain? Is that a subtle indicator that either GM/Jalopnik are paying them for the content? Or are they being paid to promote R&T content where they know Travis has an audience? Am I thinking too far into this and the Jalopnik staff just have a soft spot for Travis?
Please enlighten me.

They reposted their stuff way before Travis went over there too. I don’t know what the deal is with the URL, but I’d be surprised if The Denton isn’t being paid for these reposts.

I don’t know if this is what you are asking, but if you own a domain you can make any number of xxxx.yourdomain.com addresses.
So, if you own mr-pichols.com you can create kinja.mr-pichols.com if you want.

Maybe something to do with who gets advertising money?

Oh I didn’t know you could carry the kinja platform and users over. They would still have to make some deal with GM group though for that to work I’d imagine. I wonder if they would have preferred to just do the group blog merge method rather than go through the corporate side. Analytics may be easier on their own domain though.

Oh that could be. Especially since GM main site articles pop up in the popular posts widget/collumn. My adblock is always on so I didn’t notice any ads.

I doubt R&T is hosting their own kinja server. I’m sure they just redirected their kinja.roadandtrack.com address to roadandtrack.kinja.com.
It’s possible to redirect a domain and show the original url in the address bar (
link
).

As I understand it, there is some cooperation with Hearst media, who owns R&T (and C&D)
