Well, there’s your problem:
Teams are spending around £15-20million per season for the 1.6-litre turbocharged V6s, which were introduced in 2014, compared to £7m during the V8 era.

There were problems before too, but the new prices really just amplified it all. I’m really surprised that they agreed to this, because this will have a big impact on manufacturer revenue which means that their research budget won’t be as big. With Renault possibly leaving, this could mean Ferrari and Mercedes building more engines at more of a loss and their costs become unfavorable for their parent companies.
