Anyone here know a lot about carbon parts? This bonnet looks sanded or flat/matte. Is it ok to leave them like that or make them like that? If I did it on my Z, I don’t want it glossy. I think 3M has a matte carbon wrap I could do the tops of the fenders to match, the old rally cars had black all the way out past the hood. Just an idea I was kicking around. The Z is not on the road again, yet. I’m swapping DCOE 45s for 40s and a couple other things. I’ll post some pics when I get time to finish up. The huge show I’m working on comes out starting tomorrow so not yet!

It’s dry carbon. Doesn’t keep it’s quality as well in the sun as wet carbon, much harder to repair cosmetics wise (wet has a clear coat, making it easier to correct).

Thanks for making me go to restored.jp and drool again.

I haven’t done that in a while.

Oh yeah I’ve heard of that, can you paint wet carbon in matte clear?

I used the 3M carbon wrap on a the splitter of my car and it's a fantastic looking wrap, really looks legit.

You could take some 600 grit to a nice clear-coated carbon hood, same effect, doesn’t really hurt it... people would probably scratch their heads a little. And you could always 2000 grit it back to shiny if you wanted.

I just don’t like only the hood being black on an orange car, looks better out to the edge to me. Yeah the 3m stuff seems pretty nice.

True, a light sand would work. I want anti glare, not shiny. It’s that or a fiberglass hood and just wrap the top black out to the fenders so it looks like a rally paint job.
