This semester’s Career Fair took place this week, and there were three automakers there. Local Motors said that they’d have a Rally Fighter parked outside and, sure enough, it was there when I went. It’s awesome, though they didn’t do anything else to attract attention to the car besides parking it like that.
Ford was at the fair for the first time today - I heard that they’d be parking a new Mustang outside somewhere, but I never saw it where they said it’d be parked. I did see this new automatic 2016 Mustang GT with the Recaro seats, Black Accent Package and hood vent turn signals yesterday - maybe this was it?
Tesla Motors was here yesterday, but they didn’t seem to be looking for interns at UMD. I left resumés with Local Motors and FoMoCo. As far as free swag is concerned, I got a Rally Fighter booklet and a card featuring the Verrado drift trike from Local Motors.

Are you in engineering at UMD? I took a course there during the summer.

Yeah, I switched into MechE last year. I’m finishing up pre-reqs so that I can enroll in the Vehicle Dynamics and FSAE courses for the Automotive Engineering track, and there’s also the FSAE club (which I haven’t joined this semester, but might later).

From someone who interned with Ford: join FSAE. That’s the biggest thing they look for, and the easiest way to get in the door.

I’m well aware of that, LOL - I’ve wanted to join FSAE for quite some time now. I just have courses that I need to take care of before I can join the Formula car team, and my grades take priority over joining the Baja buggy team for the time being.

Wow, you guys have course pre-reqs to join the team? Our team (gas or electric) will take anyone as long as theyre willing to put in the hours.

There are two Terps Racing teams - one is the club, which underclassmen can join, and it runs a Baja buggy. To get on the team that works on an open-wheel racer, a person has to enroll in the associated course; however, they’re only allowed to do that once they’ve finished all of their freshman- and sophomore-level courses. I’ve got one more sophomore-level course to finish before I’m eligible to enroll in the course.
That’s my understanding of UMD’s FSAE program, anyway.

I had the pleasure of meeting the UMD FSAE team at the MIS event, when I was working my company’s hospitality tent. They’re one of the teams we sponsor, and they are an awesome group of bright young minds.

I hope they get some good talent out of there. That thing looks like shit! those panel gaps, that shitty looking construction.. wow. dude I love these things but that one looks like shit. I hope it’s from abuse and not poor craftsmanship.
