I just updated my iPhone 5s to IOS 9 and am really not impressed with anything. The only new feature that I can see myself using is the battery save mode. So what does OPPO think?

The new notifications screen is kind of cool, and the change to the keyboard so I can tell when shift is on is nice. Other than that, meh so far.

I just updated my iPad last night and so far I’m not overwhelmed. The only real difference I’ve noticed is that it has issues staying connected to my wifi. I also just updated my phone (OG MotoX) to Android Lollipop (5.1) so I’m all sorts of updated and confused.

I’ve not really liked an update since IOS 7. I’ve been a little underwhelmed since then.

hehe. IOS. also known as the previous droid XD
kidding. (kinda)

a big ‘Meh’

The battery saving feature does not preserve the battery life in a way that the iPhone user could not already do before. It’s...useless. It disables functions that the iPhone user can already disable, which I already have disabled.

I’m not liking the new font. Agreed, it’s pretty meh.

I switched from an iPhone 6 Plus to a Nexus 6.. That’s what I thought.. lol.

Once you get into iOS versions intended for phones that are a couple generations older than the one you’re using, things can get a bit sketchy. I’m holding off on updating for that reason. (5S user here still under contract for another year)
![]() 09/17/2015 at 15:51 |

That is true. They changed the multitask window (double click home) to look more like Android.

Good thing I’m not updating from iOS 8! :p
![]() 09/17/2015 at 15:52 |

True.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 15:52 |

I think it’s just an easier way for most people to turn them on and off.

I’m going to do that when my contract is up. I’ve been looking at android recently.

I guess.

This is very true. It doesn’t seem slow for now but that was very true of IOS 7 on my iPhone 4

I should have waited. But I didn’t. :(

I don’t even know.

My wife worships at the Alter of Jobs and has been trying to tell me how much better the new generation is. They’ve done little more than make incremental “improvements” (more like changes) to the software over the last several years. I still feel like they nailed it from a reliability stand point with the 4S. Everything since then is just an excuse to make money.

Apple claims it also slows down the processor and kills background processes (not normally possible on an iPhone). I’m doing a battery test right now. Unplugged from the wall at 7am, immediately switched on the battery saver (it turns itself off once the phone is charged). It’s now 3pm and I have 84% of my battery remaining.
And this is after I spent an hour streaming Spotify through bluetooth, no less than 100 texts sent, and some web browsing on my part.
Normally, I’d be at 60-75% right now, so it’s working as advertised?

Everything before the 4S was good. Everything after is not really that exciting.

I have not, but I also read that most of what is new is under the hood and you won’t see it. Lots of people are freaking out over the change in fonts. And I’ve heard good things about battery management and other small UI tweaks. Like always, I’ll wait a few weeks until all my apps get updated and all the early adopters—like yourself—discover the headaches. I’ll probably wait until 9.0.1.

My iPhone 6 has waaaaaaaaay shittier battery

I did think about the apps not being updated but I was willing to take the risk (and the headache). I’m not a huge fan of the font but I’ll live. It was a smaller update than IOS 8 and less of a pain.

Mine is fine somehow.

I quite like it on my iPad - Air 2, so I get all the fancy multitasking - but that’s mainly because it’s finally cribbed one of my favourite ‘mundane utility’ features from Android:
You can at last upload stuff to web forms from third-party sources without having to download anything to the internal memory first. I’m finally allowed to upload .gifs. It’s fantastic; I no longer have to keep switching between my iPad and my phone.
It’s still not my OS of choice, for a whole variety of reasons, but iOS 9 has added a whole bunch of crap that they’ve needed to achieve parity with Android for a long time now. They’re still not there yet, at least for my use-case, and probably never will be with the fundamental philosophical differences between how Apple and Google approach their OSs, but it’s still a decent update, all in all.

The 2 apps open at the same time does seem useful.

It’s handy, and I love the background-video thing, though it won’t be that useful until my three main video apps - YouTube, Netflix, and the Giant Bomb Video Buddy - support it.
In any case, it’s nice to be able to strike a couple of things off the ‘Stuff That Annoys Me About iOS’ Evernote that I’ve been compiling to vent my frustrations. (Towards the top of the list: the Evernote app is pretty crappy.)

I do like the new ad-block capabilities. Get 1blocker on the App Store, it's free.

What's the background video thing?
![]() 09/17/2015 at 17:30 |

Thanks for the tip. I'll get it when I get back to somewhere with WiFi

There’s a new button on the player:
If you hit it, you get a persistent, resizeable video window that’ll float over whatever you’re doing:
You can tuck it away, too:

I like the new font. Search works a million times better and I like being able to search through the settings. Picture in picture mode on the iPad is great. Updated my iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 6 Plus last night. No issues. I don’t notice any major differences, but I like that.

Actually, that’s kinda useful.

iOS 9 was not meant to be a feature-filled update, more of one to fix iOS 8’s woes.

I now have Avenir Next on my jailbroken iPhone 5. What a relief

They kinda pitched it as feature filled.

I've thought about jail breaking.

It’s been tough. Another couple days and I might not be here typing this.
