Merhi only informed of Rossi bumping him after arriving in Singapore?! Thats fucked up.
“I flew here on Monday and when I arrived the team gave me the news that I would not be driving and Rossi would replace me for five races,” he admitted.
I have heard it suggested that this is a backroom deal for Ferrari/Haas to test Rossi.

F1 is a business. Feelings get hurt.
They couldn’t have told him before they made the announcement or a final decsion. You never tell the person you’re firing that they’re being fired
ahead
of time.

That is pretty not cool, but I’d be interested to learn why they didn’t tell him. Maybe he wasn’t available to be infromed?

I was thinking it was Haas related as well. I don’t think it’s that dick, though. Merhi was never guaranteed the full season, and it was assumed that he would only be with the team for the first few races. Merhi is not paying for his drive, which is unusual for drivers in his position, so he’s not in any position to complain. It’s not like he has a contract that Manor are going back on. He’s already had more F1 races this year than he was expecting. I think it’s kind of a shame because he seems to have done very well to get past his tentative start to the year to regularly beating his pretty good teammate.

Like SidewaysOnDirt said, he was never promised the seat for the whole season. Also if anything sucks, it’s that his F3.5 seat isn’t available anymore because he put all his eggs in the F1 basket.

Feelings get hurt.
Maybe a picture of Rossi with a receding hairline would cheer him up?

Maybe he wasn’t available to be informed?
Yeah, he was probably on a flight.
I commented earlier that it’s a business, and they told him when it suited them best.
Doesn’t suck any less from Mehri, though. I’m sure they’ll buy him a
Mustaine-class
ticket back to Spain.

Yeah, that’s the bit that really sucks, but he gave up his FR3.5 seat willingly. It probably would have made more sense to take the Manor drives for the exposure and experience, but stay focused on the junior series. Manor was never going to be his ticket to an F1 career, or at least not this year.

Yeah, that flight to Singapore from Spain is kind of long.

“I flew here on Monday and when I arrived the team gave me the news”
They did tell him, just not until he got there. It’s a long flight from Spain to Singapore and things in F1 happen very quickly.

I read that it was so Rossi can get around next year superliscence requirements. probably ordered by Ferrari for the benefit of Ferrari Jr., er I mean Haas.

It sucks for Merhi But I am Glad Rossi gets to drive!

Exactly, he sold his old home, at least he has two more drives this year.

“Would Mr. Merhi please come up to the cockpit for a word with the pilot.”
