Any Oppos in the DC area (or willing to relocate) looking for a job as a recruiter/HR person? This is not a very firm lead, and I have no idea what the requirements are, but you probably get bonus points if you have a background with the Navy, military in general, commercial shipping, and/or engineering. But I was talking with one of our HR people this morning and she was asking me and some officemates if we knew of anyone.

You had me until “recruiter/HR person”. From my experience as a contractor, the Navy is the worst, the Air Force is the dumbest, and the Army doesn’t give a shit.

I refuse to accept the Water Police AKA The Knee-Deep Navy as a branch of the military.

That being said, I think their mission is awesome.

As a former bubblehead, I don’t consider them as a branch of the military either. But, my FIL was a search & rescue pilot for 19 years and my mom’s cousin was a rescue swimmer. They are both pretty badass.

From a contracting perspective, they are im-fucking-possible to deal with. We are currently getting down to the wire to place a final bid for designing their next generation medium endurance cutter. We are acting as design agent for one of the shipyards and between the yard and the USCG, if we actually win the thing, I think half my department might quit. No one wants 2 more years of the hell we’ve been put through thus far.
