The closest thing we had to shop class was a basic mechanics class that was only available to seniors. Anything more dangerous than scissors wasn't allowed throughout my schooling because kids need protection from everything in life and/or schools didn't want lawsuits from over protective parents suing because Johnny hit himself with a hammer.
