I loved that movie as a kid, used to rent it over and over again. I think I watched it primarily for the Rolls-Royce, and the ‘58 Cadillac that gets destroyed in the chase at the end.

That’s funny. I’ll have to check it out now. I remember watching those Disney movies on t.v. as a kid. The Million Dollar Duck, The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. But, I don’t remember The Gnome Mobile.

It’s “De Dwerg-Express”!!!

For that time the special effects (double filming) were pretty darn good. You as a SFX-guru just have to watch it.

Did you watch this one as a kid? Somehow I missed it. I used to watch all those Disney movies as they were always on t.v. This one was based on a book by a usually very serious writer, oddly enough.

Yes, Dutch dubbed though. Can’t remember all of it’s story, the SFX I just judged on while looking at your youtube clip.

I don’t think there’s a lot of Disney films I didn’t see while I was young. We got a Betamax-video player directly after it was introduced so we often had other kids coming over to see rental movies my mom got. That was often Disney as she loved those her self.

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, Betamax. Our neighbor had one of those because he was a techy type. He also had cable before anyone else. It worked out well for us because then my father would have to keep up with him. Although, we just got VHS.

My favorites from that era were the Witch Mountain movies. I had a crush on the little blonde girl.

We had Betamax because our neighbor sold A/V appliances. And he said Betamax was way superior. Which it was of course.

Witch Mountain don’t ring no bells actually. The little blond girl probably is slightly older than us. And probably living nearby for you: you should definitely look her up!

Escape From Witch Mountain was about these two alien children who get stuck on Earth and have to find a way home while being chased by gangsters. She was in a whole bunch of stuff as a kid. Little House on the Prairie, Disney movies, Love Boat. Recently, she’s become notorious for this reality show she’s on where she is a complete disaster. She’s had some big drug problems, unfortunately. Kim Richards. Here she is then and now.

Kinja'd!!!

She’s a few years older than I am, but she actually doesn’t look too bad considering. I think she’s cleaned up a bit from her darkest days.

Must have seen her on the Love Boat, I think I must have seen all episodes in all those re-runs. Ha, another reality show. And knowing she’s a disaster and living that close to you: YOU HAVE TO VISIT HER! In what way she’s that disaster , drug-related?

I’ll get some of that Which Mountain.

She was also on an episode of Magnum, so you’ve seen her multiple times. She married several two very wealthy men and made a lot of money that way after her acting career. Then she was engaged to a third guy who was a bigwig at some corporation who was being investigated for fraud, or some kind of white collar crime. He was murdered while on the phone with her outside my father’s favorite Jewish restaurant here in L.A. True story. Then I guess she became addicted to drugs and booze. I think she wasted all her money because she was arrested for shoplifting recently. Pretty sad.

That one I definitely saw, according to IMDB that should be Mixed Doubles. It was a different time of course but none of the female tennis players was wearing a bra when playing tennis! That can’t be right! The way they played wasn’t really professional either ;-)

Having your husband on the line while him being shot should be enough to have some issues alright. But shoplifting...

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/23/2015 at 03:21

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, that was a good era for tennis on t.v. They also always had huge, fluffy hair. I think I remember that episode now. She was a bratty kid tennis star, or something.

I feel like shoplifting in Hollywood is a way to get attention. Like with Winona Ryder.

09/23/2015 at 04:44

Kinja'd!!!1

The fluffy hair was awesome. She was a bratty kid alright, her opponent was some ex of Thomas IIRC.

Ah, the getting-attention angle. I’m just too dumb to understand that part. But I don’t like attention anyway so maybe that’s just me. I do like Winona somehow though.

I think when some people are used to a lot of attention, and then it goes away, they’ll do anything to get it back. I’ve always liked Winona, too. All the way back to Beetlejuice. She’s had a couple good roles recently. She was just on this excellent HBO miniseries. For a while she had almost disappeared.

You don’t remember Beetlejuice , or her in the movie?

Kinja'd!!!

Yeah, Mermaids is depressing. My favorite of hers will always be Heathers , but she’s also great in Edward Scissorhands . She and Tim Burton were a good team before he moved on to what’s her face.

Oh, I remember Beetlejuice alright (Michael Keaton’s best performance ever if you ask me), just didn’t remember Winona being in it. That picture helps, thanks.

Heathers I don’t know. Nor do I know who you meant with what’s her face? Tim Burton is great though. Totally love his Sleepy Hollow . And no, not just because Casper is in it. GET OUT OF MY HEAD CASPER!

09/25/2015 at 14:41

Kinja'd!!!1

Heathers is a classic American high school dark comedy. Good stuff. Christian Slater’s best role is in that movie. It’s kind of like an 80’s, more violent Mean Girls. I meant Helena Bonham Carter. Did she and Tim Burton ever get married? I like Sleepy Hollow, too. That movie didn’t do so well, but it’s really fun. That might be your hero Casper’s best acting performance.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/25/2015 at 16:17

Kinja'd!!!1

Well, it’s added. Christian Slater’s best role thus far for me was Very Bad Things . Total psycho. Don’t get it why that movie didn’t get much love.

Helena Bonham Carter? I know her from Big Fish. Another great goofy movie by Burton. Don’t know if they’re married, didn’t know they were a “thing”!

Don’t forget to take Casper with you when you visit Europe!

He was quite good in Very Bad Things. That movie definitely has a cult following. It’s pretty nasty which is why I guess it didn’t appeal to a wide audience. But, parts of it are hilarious.

They were engaged for a while. Maybe they broke up by now. She’s also in those Harry Potter movies. Do you only know her from Big Fish?

Don’t worry. I’ll ask Casper to come. Maybe his wife will pay for the trip.

I tried to convince people to go back then but not many went anyway. Not sure how the reviews were back then, I find the IMDB-score laughable.

Yes! Harry Potter as well now you mention it. Although I didn’t really enjoy those Potter movies. The first one I did, after that not so much.

You want his wife to pay? WHY DON’T YOU BRING HER AS WELL?

I really like the third Harry Potter movie. The other ones I can take or leave. Most of them felt like they only filed the boring parts of the books.

I would bring her, but she’s going to demand your floor of the house. It doesn’t seem like we can come to a compromise on that.

Hmmm... The third one, was that the Prisoner of Azkaban ? That one was great actually, mainly due to another favorite of mine: Gary Oldman!

09/29/2015 at 01:40

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, that one. It’s a really good movie. You can watch it on its own without knowing anything about Harry Potter. I’ve liked Gary Oldman ever since he played Sid Vicious in Sid & Nancy . Terrific actor.

No, Casper couldn’t make it. It was just me and the Le Car.

First time I ran into him was in JFK playing that amazing Lee Harvey Oswald. He even looked like ‘m. As far as I could tell. Great movie, despite Kevin Costner who always seems to play some sort of same character over and over again. Didn’t see Sid & Nancy .

I’ve visited that warehouse from which he was supposed to have been shooting in Dallas. It’s a JFK museum nowadays. Totally amazing how many theories exist about this killing and who’s behind it. If you didn’t go there: put it on your list.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/30/2015 at 02:59

Kinja'd!!!1

No, I’ve never been to Dallas, but if I did ever go I’d definitely visit the JFK Museum. That stuff is fascinating. I don’t believe any of the conspiracy stuff, but it’s fun to read. I like all the breakdowns of the Zapruder film. Especially the guy that opens and closes the umbrella which is supposed to have been a coded spy message to Oswald, or something.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/30/2015 at 03:57

Kinja'd!!!1

Do it, it’s truly one of the best museums I’ve ever been to. Partly due to the fact it is fascinating stuff indeed, partly due to the way it’s set up. That’s one thing you Americans really are good in.

So what do you believe? Oswald was a lone wolf, capable of shooting from 3 angles within what, 5 seconds? Acting solely, waking up one day thinking “Let’s shoot some president”?

Ain’t there still some secret documents from the FBI that have not been released yet? It’s about time, over 50 years later.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
09/30/2015 at 04:16

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, Oswald got a lucky shot. It wasn’t impossible. He was a real nut and seemed to be planning it for a while from what I’ve read about him. These things usually have the most boring solution. I did read one interesting theory that said he might have been aiming at the Texas governor who was sitting in front of Kennedy, but I don’t know why you’d go through all the trouble of doing it while the President was there.

I don’t know if there are more documents, but probably. They’ll keep anything secret.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
09/30/2015 at 07:33

Kinja'd!!!1

I’ve seen so many theories in that museum, I think there are over 50 of those. Didn’t know the one of the Texas governor but that one is truly absurd. Most amazing part to me still is that no harm was done to Jackie. Speaking of Jackie: it took me like ages to find out the Jackie from the Commodores’ Nightshift was a totally different one!

I see most of the files have been released now. Still not everything though.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
10/01/2015 at 03:49

Kinja'd!!!1

Everyone thinks Jackie was trying to escape when she crawled onto the back of the car, but apparently she was trying to grab a piece of JFK’s head that had landed on the trunk. Pretty gross.

Yeah, that song’s about Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson. That Jackie was a great singer. One of the best from that era.

Interesting. I guess we’ll find out some more in a couple years.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee
10/01/2015 at 07:16

Kinja'd!!!1

Yeah, I knew that actually, and I think it wasn’t just a piece of head but brain-tissue she was gathering. Have seen quite some documentaries regarding this assassination.

Still don’t know why I related Jacky K to the Commodores. Probably just never actually listened to those lyrics anyway. It’s not my native language right? Great stories about those Commodores as well btw.

If we’ll find out some more is debatable as it’s only like 1 to 5 % of the files that have not been released yet. I find it hard to believe we’ll see totally different things/facts from those already released. It’s curious why they were kept secret this long though.

Kinja'd!!! Jonee > Jobjoris
10/02/2015 at 04:04

Kinja'd!!!1

I didn’t know who Jackie was, either, for a long time. I might have figured it was Jackie Robinson, the baseball player. Jackie Kennedy makes as much sense. Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson both died around the same time, so the song was a double tribute.

Which stories about the Commodores? Lionel Ritchie stories?

Kinja seems to be acting up, by the way. I got no notifications of your replies. I just happened to notice them.

Kinja'd!!! Jobjoris > Jonee

I’m sure it was Lionel who was telling those. I know he went buying 6 Mercedes and a Jaguar when their Three Times a Lady went number one all over the world. But the salesman clearly wasn’t used to African Americans walking in and ordering this much so to check his credit he called the bank in front of Lionel: I got a “Lenny Richards” here and he says he’s a member of some band called the Commandos.

Stuff like that. He’s quite the story-teller.

Could be, would be bad as many of my replies were epic. Of course ;-)

Ha. That’s a great story. Where did you see him tell it? I’ll have to look him up on Youtube and see if there are some interviews with him. I always loved that band. They had a nice, mellow r&b sound. Easy is such a classic track.

They were so epic, they broke Kinja. Although, it doesn’t take much to break Kinja. I thought you didn’t like me any more because I don’t believe in JFK conspiracies. Except maybe the one about Oswald’s wife being the real killer.

I think it was in a Dutch talkshow called Jensen . He (Robert Jensen) had great interviews with Lionel Ritchie. Or wait a minute... It was on Top Gear!

Easy is great. Awesome. Epic. Of course many of those songs are a bit too mellow but I never really get annoyed or something. And the way Faith no more covered Easy...

Don’t recall that Oswald’s wife being the killer theory. What’s behind that one?

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, yeah. That’s a great interview. The Mercedes story is really funny. It must be nice being a rock star who can do that sort of thing. That Faith No More cover was pretty good. I guess it’s hard to screw that song up.

I made that theory up myself, actually. I always feel bad for Marina when I see one of those documentaries. She always thought he was guilty, but I guess she’s changed her mind. It’s weird to think she’s out there somewhere.

Listened to Faith no More in my teens a lot as well. And then, when I finally grew up early twenties (haha), they produced King For a Day...Fool For a Lifetime. Seems they finally grew up as well. Saw them live once as well... wait a minute, didn’t we cover Faith no More before as well?

Didn’t even knew her name was Marina. I went to Marina del Rey though, speaking of Marinas. Fisherman’s Village of course, being a tourist. Haha, totally American!

Kinja'd!!!1

I don’t know if we talked about Faith No More. I was never really into them back then, but not necessarily because I didn’t like the music, I just never made a point of listening to them. They’re big fans of this band Sparks that I love and they’ve played together a few times. So, I’ve seen Faith No More in that regard.

We have lots of marinas around here. Fisherman’s Village is very touristy. The rest of L.A. is nothing like that. Did you ever get the old t.v. show CHiPs ? Ponch lived in Marina Del Rey and as a kid I thought it looked great so when I moved out here I figured that’s where I’d live. But, it’s fairly expensive so now I live on the complete opposite side of town nowhere near the water. But, maybe one day I’ll live my dream of Marina Del Rey. Although, I like Malibu better. That’s where Rockford from The Rockford Files lived.

The opening of the concert was so amazing. A dark stage. The start of Europe’s Final Count Down . And when those synthesizer strings start, Mike Patton starts doing Aerobics exercises, and the other band members follow his lead. Entire music hall started laughing.

We got CHiPs alright. And of course I know Eric Estrada, wasn’t he in Married with Children as a love interest for Peggy at one time?

Ed O’Neill is great. Best episode ever I find the one in which he has a song in his head but he doesn’t know who it’s from. And he just knows a small part of the lyrics: “Hmmmm hmm hmm him”. Epic.

Just checked IMDB: no Married... with Children in his list of work. But indeed: quite the list of “TV Series” he appeared in!

Oh, I think I remember that one. That show really changed American sitcoms, I think. As silly as it was, it’s become legendary.

I sort of met Estrada twice. Once at a Red Bull soapbox derby. He was a judge and I helped build this crazy mad max shopping cart thing. And then he was a judge at our local car show a few years ago when I brought my Mazda R360. He laughed at it and I told him it was like the little Honda that this football player drove on an episode of CHiPs, but he didn’t pay me much attention. We didn’t win any prizes.
