Spotted a new Mitsubishi mid-sized pickup in Austin, Texas this evening:
Sorry for the poor quality; taking photos in 183 Northbound traffic was awkward.
I’ve seen it before as an Asian-market model; I wonder if there’s any intent to sell them here.
Something tells me, with it up high and unwrapped like that, in the middle of the evening commute, that this might have been an indicator of things to come from the triple-diamond guys.
Is Mitsu a gonna be a comeback kid?
Update: most likely just a Mexican market truck.

Could be a Mexican market truck.

Completely hijacking this thread but I have been applying to jobs in Austin (mostly gfx design and video editing, art stuff as well) and I will probably visit for a week soon (end of the month/early October). Anything I should know?

Mitsubishi really needs to sell them up here!

Looks like a L200... We have those in my country
![]() 09/15/2015 at 22:35 |

They are sold in Mexico, which is near the border with Texas. This is a non-story.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 22:37 |

They will need a catchier name than l200 to capture the attention of buyers...

You could take all your weird gifs/posts and go to an open mic night on the eastside, nobody would bat an eye (because hipsters)

It’s a very tech-friendly city, and job competition is fierce. Make sure you have a job lined up before you come. I made the mistake of assuming I’d get work right away...
But it’s a cool town for people who make time to get out and do stuff. Lots of fun places to hang out. Downtown at night basically turns into a big living room. Weather will probably be on the cool side about that time of year (60s-80s).
Where are you coming from?

Kinda the most logical answer, I guess. Didn’t get a look at the plate.
We get a lot of Mexican cars thru here. I saw a red Audi A1 just a few days ago.

Long Island and went to undergrad + grad school in Manhattan and Brooklyn respectively. Friends and professors have recommended Austin to me.
Planning on finding people who live/work in Austin in my field via LinkedIn and sites like Vitamin T and contacting them before planning my trip. I’d never move someplace without having a gig there first. I don’t drink and go clubbing, etc. but it seems there is a decent art scene there that may be of interest to me.
Thanks a lot for your information. If I do end up going soon, I’ll definitely let you know.

Yeah, didn’t hit me until someone else mentioned it.
A boy can dream.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 22:58 |

Nope. They sell very well already with that name, and they have been since the 80s

Do you see any Chevy Tornadoes?
I would love one of these!

I’m going to assume he meant if they brought them to the US.

I’ve been meeting a lot of transplants from the Northeast lately, Austin should do well for you. One of my co-workers came here from from NJ about three years ago, and just quit where we worked recently to do Android app development instead. She absolutely loves it here, and had no problem fitting in.

Nah, haven’t seen one of those yet. I did see a VW Amarok about a year ago, tho.

Hmm American trucks have moved away from the letter and number names in the mid sized truck segment:Colorado, Canyon, Frontier, Tacoma, Raider, Durango, etc...I think to sell in the U.S. it’d have to be the raider or a new name to differentiate it from the past. Maybe raider evo, or revo even!
![]() 09/15/2015 at 23:04 |

Probably the most likely answer.

Well there are specs of L200 with names like Barbarian, Animal and Warrior.

Maybe.

The named units are mainly decals and slight variances.
Of course these are current and recent units, the new L200 Warrior is:-
New for Europe.
After almost a decade in the European market, Mitsubishi presented an all-new replacement for its L200 pickup truck at
the Geneva Motor Show
.
The fifth generation L200 is the European specification version of the
Mitsubishi Triton
that was launched in Thailand in November last year and it promises to bring all-around improvements, especially inside, while retaining its “functionality and reliability as a work vehicle”, according to the manufacturer.
It has the typical inoffensive exterior design of Japanese trucks adding new front and rear end designs to the previous model’s swoopy profile, while inside, it has a passenger car-like dashboard with Mitsubishi claiming that it offers higher-quality materials and more space than before.
It comes fitted with seven SRS airbags while also offering active safety features such as Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).
The L200 uses the same Super Select 4WD-II drivetrain as the Shogun SUV with a choice of four modes, including 2WD and three 4WD modes.
Power for the European model is provided by a new 2.4-liter turbocharged MIVEC inline-four diesel, available in two states of tune, with 154PS (152hp) and 380Nm (280lb-ft), and 181PS (178hp) and 430Nm (317lb-ft) of torque respectively.
Two transmissions will be available, including a new 6-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic with Sport Mode and paddle shifting.

new Triton.
great find.
i’ve only seen a couple locally.

Just a Triton by the looks of it, worst of the big utes made by anyone other than Ssangyong and the like. Personally wouldn’t touch one with a ten foot pole.
