Gave my resume to practically every auto or air/space related company today at our career fair. The Big 2.5, suppliers, power sports companies, oil companies, everyone. Pictured: A police car I haven’t seen in years and years.

What sort of jobs are you looking for?

An internship doing anything remotely related to materials engineering with hopefully some emphasis on composites (Formula SAE taught me how much I love working with carbon fiber).

Hmmm... not sure we’d have anything like you’re looking for but there are a couple internships open at ZF US http://www.zf.com/jobportal/list…

Haha all I can think of any more when I hear ZF is of the awesome hospitality truck at the FSAE competition... You guys will be at our career fair tomorrow, I may have to check them out. I’ve worked at another supplier for the past two summers and need a change.

I’m also materials, but I have the luxury of being close to Y12 and ORNL so I have other options if car stuff doesn’t want me.

If you’re referring to the one at the MIS event, I was there for that! There’s a good chance we talked to each other. haha

Did you talk to Brian? He is one of our composite engineers.

I didn’t, I couldn’t find Delta for some reason! Plus my RA job would make it hard to do a co-op...

Hopefully so! I had a blast at the event. We really need to put together a better system for recruitment there. Lots of brilliant young minds who are actually enthusiastic about the industry. It was our first time doing such an event though. I’m sure we’ll refine things for next year.

Ah, they were there. Don’t know where. Yeah, Coops are a bigger time commitment for sure, but I think they are worth it. I know our coops learn a lot and have a good time.

Have you reached out to the Indycar teams? Don’t laugh. One of my good friends went from interning while at Purdue with McKinney Corp on NHRA stuff to Indycar. For that matter, you should hit up McKinney. They are just up the road. They build chassis.

Well, you know, you should obviously stop at the Purdue paddock first.... /ShamelessPlug

(and then hire all our people and then sponsor our team because we have a gorgeous car and do a lot of innovative things)

I would love to work for an Indycar team, my dream is actually to work for a race team. I have no clue how to approach that though since they don’t really recruit nor do I know anyone in that area. Also, I never thanked you for all your professional advice on these sorts of matters. So, thank you!

I actually got sponsorship inquiries from a couple teams after the event. Unfortunately, I’m the wrong person for that. haha

That’s awesome that you’re going for MSE! I went for it as well, but things came up and I had to switch out and move back to Indy. Good luck! I wish you the best!!!

Glad to help. I would go talk with McKinney. They are local to you. Offer to do anything. Clean up, lay up composites, that kind of thing. My friend started with them installing strain gauges.
