hmm, no longer a triangle in the rear fog :(

nothing special...but i like the wing

It appears that it is still there (I believe I see the outline in one of the enlarged pictures). They just have it taped over in places.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:40 |

what wing?
No i see it even if it’s camo

New rear spoiler, triangle (probably) replaced with a small rectangle, and it looks like they finally changed the exhaust tips so that they fit in the hole.

Yeah, I’m not as big of a fan of that. I like the way the front end looks more than the current BRZ. I’m curious to see what happens with the FR-S.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:42 |

I don’t really like how the new front end looks but I’m a bigger fan of the BRZ happier face anyway.

The front end has definitely been redesigned too. The opening in the front bumper is significantly different; shorter, wider, and the trapezoid shape has been reversed (widens top to bottom, as opposed to narrowing top to bottom as it does now). Also the mustache looks thinner; going for more of a hipster look over the Swanson.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:43 |

I actually like it better than the current BRZ, but that may be because it looks more like the FR-S, which I prefer.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:45 |

It looks like the front opening is a bit smaller to me. Another MPG highway?
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:45 |

I like the big opening up front, but looks like the Toyota fog lamps and I hate those. I like the current BRZ lamps.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:45 |

I wonder if it could possibly have a different engine. TURBO!
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:45 |

BRZ, based on the turn signal being inboard of the headlight, and the DRL sticking out where the GT86/FR-S turn signal would be.
Bottom of the grill slants outward, not inward like the current BRZ. The small lump where the license plate is attached may be a much smaller “mustache,” which the current design has been highly criticized for (it’s my least favorite bit of styling as well). Or maybe it’s painted this time?
Revised tail lights. The red spot in the center of the brake/tail light wouldn’t illuminate the very top of the housing the way this does. Also, the turn signal has moved to where the current brake/tail light is. You can barely see the amber glow of the right turn signal in this location. I see no cutouts for reverse lights on either side of the rear fog light. Maybe these have moved to the present turn signal locations? There’s already a mod out there that does this, in conjunction with a “tail as turn” modification.
Different spoiler, but that may or may not have anything to do with what actually goes into production.
The fake side vents are taped over, indicating a possible change there, but the contours look similar to the current part.

It’s interesting how despite how similar they are the small differences are still polarizing.

It was pointed out lower in the linked post, but I believe that this is the Toyota version. The front grille definitely appears to have the “T” motif, which is consistent with the grille of the current GT86/FRS, as well as the instrument cluster.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:47 |

FR-S, not BRZ. See the T’s in the front grill.
Looks mostly the same, changes are pretty minor. Clear side marker is a nice improvement.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:48 |

Oh you’re right. That’s one of my favorite parts on the rear
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:48 |

I like the new front end, not a fan of the wing, but that’s easy to get rid of so it doesn’t bother me.
I’m curious what the FRS will look like if they update it too. I usually prefer it to the BRZ depending on the day of the week.

Ha I saw this in the comments:
Hey guys, so I heard the new BRZ is coming with updated bumpers with larger grilles for the turbo they’re going to add to it. I’m being told the car should have 350hp and be a direct competitor to the Focus RS.
Should I just buy a BRZ now or wait for the new one to come out? I don’t want to buy it and worry about the kinks that they have the first new model year.
Keep dreaming there bud.

Ahhh good point. Looking at it now the red seat trim and “fangs” on the front end give it away too.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:53 |

I'm not an expert on the Toyobaru, but this is so minor to me. It's like they're doing an update that only owners would notice.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:54 |

More air means more power right?
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:54 |

Pretty sure he was being sarcastic, but it’s tough to tell on that forum. haha
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:54 |

It will be interesting to see if we actually get the clear side markers. I believe the GT86 already has clear side markers, but we don’t get them in the US currently.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:58 |
|
Yup, pretty much. The one update it really needs is more power (I’m happy with it but most people aren’t), and that’s not going to happen, so they give it a mid-run facelift instead.
I’ll tell you one thing, though - if my theory about the tail lights is correct, many current owners are going to be rushing right out to replace their original Altezza style lights with these for an updated look.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 14:59 |
|
It’s a pretty minor change, it would be nice to add. They did it with the shark fin, and are clearly upgrading the headlights and tailights to better equipment.
It’s all pretty small, though. If they aren’t adjusting the power curve, or adding significant options to the interior, it’s not going to move the needle.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 15:09 |
|
That’s understandable if it’s a direct swap (and Toyota would be foolish not to do so $$$). I don’t get the clear taillight look, never have. I don't think there's a single car that they look good on.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 15:16 |

I used some spray tint to make mine red.
I remember when the “import tuners” did the same thing to make their red tail lights something other than red.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 15:20 |
|
Much better. I ended up ordering some red and amber vinyl overlays to fix the clear section of taillight that Honda for whatever reason didn’t color on the ‘15 Civic.

Just realized Hyundai borrowed from the brz a bit
![]() 09/15/2015 at 15:57 |

As pointed it by others, the grill seems to indicate a GT86. Which is interesting because it definitely seems to be adopting some cues from the BRZ.
I’m excited to see it sans-camo.

Jalopnik spotted the refreshed 2013 GenCoupe as early August 29th, 2011: http://jalopnik.com/5834672/peugeo…
October 27th, 2011: Jalopnik posts the final design of the Toyobaru, which they’re uncertain about. ( http://jalopnik.com/5853832/toyota… )
Try harder.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 16:00 |

Yeah, I updated my title to reflect that it seems to be a Toyota. The hint of a mustache and the fake vents that are styled like the BRZ’s (no 86 boxer logo) threw me off.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 16:07 |

I wasn’t correcting you, just trying to make my point clearly, which I seem to have done poorly.

Haha no worries. :)
![]() 09/15/2015 at 16:16 |

Eh still looks the same bruh
![]() 09/15/2015 at 16:19 |

In that case, that means Toyota copied Hyundai. The 2013 refresh on the GenCoupe matches the hexagonal corporate grille that was on their other cars prior to 2013.

Wouldn’t surprise me, Toyota forgot how to build non boring cars in the 90s and needed Subaru to help them make the “twins”.
