We now head south-west into the jagged mountains of Spain at El Camino Viejo de Montserrat.
Nestled in the mountains east of Barcelona, Spain, El Camino Viejo de Montserrat (literally translating to “the old road of Montserrat”) is a narrow mountain pass that had been used for centuries as a means for people to travel to and from a famed Benedictine abbey located towards the peak. It also eventually became a popular tourist destination for its scenic vistas, seeing more crowds arrive as it became paved.
Years later in the 1960s, as other roads were built through the jagged peaks of Montserrat, a section of El Camino Viejo was re-purposed and adapted for motorsports and car club use. The winding narrow roads proved to be a challenge for drivers, and an experience for spectators. It was especially popular for rally use. However, the official course was later closed due to safety concerns, with the roads remaining and being periodically refurbished for public use.
Still, this was not the end of what this stretch of road would see in motorsports. Not too many years after the old road course was closed off, construction began nearby on the Montserrat Motorsport Complex, which is comprised of two facilities. The first is the Ladera Test Track - a state of the art test track used for pushing cars to the limits, as well as being a school circuit used for honing the skills of promising new drivers, and the second is the Iberian International Circuit - a circuit course popular for grand prix style racing and grand touring, which uses the latest safety technology and takes advantage of the undulating terrain of Montserrat to provide exciting and rewarding racing action for any type of car.
These two courses remain in active use today, and are connected to each other and to El Camino Viejo by access roads. On rare and special racing events, however, a 4.3 mile extreme circuit that runs through Iberian, Ladera, and El Camino Viejo is set up, giving an unforgettable racing experience for everyone involved, and bringing life back to the old road of Montserrat.
This race day is not one of those extreme days, however. We will we driving and experiencing the road as it was back around the heyday of our roadsters - on the original El Camino Viejo full circuit.
Be sure to keep your handling skills up to snuff. It’s a twisty road out there.

Just wait for the race. You can interpret that as either the cars spitting flames or the cars flipping over for no reason.

I wanted to keep it to the original track for that “classic feel” (i.e. the rest of the complex didn’t exist in the times of our roadsters, therefore no Extreme circuit), and I felt that the reverse layout was a lot more interesting and challenging because it’s a fast, twisty run downhill followed by a gradual climb instead of a fast, rather straight run downhill followed by a twisty hillclimb.

With this layout, I think it’s more likely that someone’s gonna clip a corner wall at high speed downhill and everyone will go pinballing into each other.
‘S gon’ b fun.

I can dig it. After years and years of driving the same tracks it’s nice to do something different for once.

I kind of miss El Camino Viejo. Was one of my favorite Foruza tracks. It needs to be revived in Forza 6/7/8/9...

Same. El Camino Viejo Extreme Reverse is my favorite track from 3. I can’t imagine why they didn’t have the reverse version in 4. Now it’s completely gone...
