...amused Elon Musk would ask.
They think they’re killing Tesla, but they’re only making Tesla stronger and prove it right.

The only Tesla killer I can think of is a power outage.

Those two seem to be the latest to join the party, but I got the joke.

Considering there haven’t been any sporty electric cars to compare Tesla against we don’t really know how good they really are. For all we know Porsche will blow it’s doors off.

premium gas at 2.50/gal seems to do it.

That could actually happen, but they will always be a follower.
Look at phones, no matter how good Android phones get, people will always think Apple revolutionized the cell phone. Until the next big thing, at least.

Interesting analogy, I feel Tesla is more of a fashion item than an automobile anyway.

Yes, because that will be the case forever. Not.

I can’t imagine many of its followers made the purchase based on fuel costs.

Not necessarily. It does what a regular car can do. Also, Tesla was nice enough to share its technology with the world, unlike Apple.

I don’t want to get into a debate about the cars merits, it can do 95% of what a normal car can do. But at that price it’s a no go for me.

... and then you add the cost of options...

Actually it’s not. Teslas are still supply constrained. The drop in US sales in 2014 had more to do with allocating production to markets they were expanding to.
2015 is shaping up to be Tesla’s highest sales year ever in the US.

These other automakers coming out with EVs to compete with Tesla will, more than anything, be hydrogen car killers.

It can do many of those things better, but I’m talking about perception.
The GT-R is fucking amazing, but when was the last time you’ve heard someone wanting to create a GT-R rival? Everyone wants to do a 911 rival.

I wouldn’t declare FC’s dead yet, many companies are gearing towards them as well.
