What do we know about the 850R wagon? This one seems pricey, but it also appears to have not been driven a whole lot.

Are you blind? Can you not see the swaths of devastation Volvo R’s are causing on Oppositelock? Have you no dignity, man!

It’s nice but 12k for an automatic, fwd, 19 year old volvo is a bit excessive.

I thought so too, but I confirmed it’s just 65k. It’s the shadow being cast on on the 0.

Nuts, right? I offered $9k cash, sight unseen. I figure I could flip it in Austin for at least $1000 profit if I don’t like it!

It seems that there is a curse for small accidents with the FiST/FoST crew and all sorts of mechanical/electrical gremlins with the R group

It’s possible the Germans have made them sign NDAs for the life of the warranty and then we will here about all sorts of turbo issues. Many a VW owner went broke over the 1.8T. I prefer mine in the slower N/A variety to simplify and avoid repair shops

Coming from an Alfa guy, that sounds like kid’s stuff.

I think I might prefer a 240, or maybe go newer with a V70.

We had an 850 Turbo for less than 6 months. We replaced it with a W-body Impala. While both of those cars were huge mistakes(Impala developed a serious knock at just over 100k miles, it was replaced with a Vibe #Toyotamasterlife), the Volvo was the biggest pile of shit my parents ever owned. It ran 90% maybe 2 of the weeks we owned it, and went in to limp mode the rest of the 6 months. No shop could diagnose it, even the local Volvo specialty shop.

I daily-drive one , though in nowhere near as good a shape as that. It’s a blast to drive; sounds great, and is properly fast, as well as incredibly practical.

They definitely have their weak points, though – oil leaks are common, they’re a bit fussy on maintenance, and the interiors aren’t all that durable (see my Opporeview for how a well-used 216,000 mile example looks), but nothing insurmountable. If it’s only got 65,000 on the clock, I doubt you’d have much issue with any of those, though. The asking price is seriously steep, but on the other hand, I doubt there are many left in that kind of condition any more. It’s definitely worth 8-9k in that shape, I’d say.
