I had been going very slightly mad looking at Mustangs this past week. I’d re-search Craigslist every five minutes “just in case!” I had even expanded my search to 71-73 Mustangs, even though I REALLY don’t like them.
But it would appear I have found the car, and I only have to go one state over to get it:
It’s an ‘86 Mustang LX notchback. An original 5.0 5-speed car, the seller has taken it apart to the state you see it now with plans of kinda going ham on it. As it is now, it can be put back together and it’ll be a nice driver, but I plan to do a little bit of surface rust repair and repaint it. It’s lightly modified and I dig the Cobra wheels...though I’d love to put some black-painted 10 holes on it.
It’s basically a 1:1 scale model kit. It runs and drives, just needs to be assembled. It’s pretty much exactly what I wanted, plus it’s a four-eyed notchback! You hardly ever see those, and I’ve never had a notchback. I’ve had every other style though: my 88 had t-tops, 89 was a convertible, 92 was a hatch, 85 was a double whammy: Capri with a sunroof.
So I’m frankly relieved to be provisionally done searching CL for cars. At the very least I’ll get the weekend off, if something dumb happens here. But the guy was very upfront about what it is, and he was basically describing what I wanted.
Can't wait to buy a car part that I don't NEED for once. It's been...a while.
