I’m guessing it’s bad.
(Disclaimer: I was not involved in any way.)

Got sideswipped by a wall?

Similar damage to my WRX resulted in a $3000 insurance payout. I’m guessing on the old Merc it’ll be totaled though, depending on your insurance...

Can’t remember what he told me. I think it was a tree or something.

Rear section, you can get a new panel from Klokkerholm for about $60 (IIRC) that covers everything from the trim line down. The hard part is removing the old metal and getting the remainder just right.

Similarly here, you just get a new fender skin and bolt it on. That leaves the doors, which I don’t have any experience with, but you might just end up swapping those for junkers. There might also be a Klokkerholm skin for them, I don’t know.

Not supposed to re-enact the Hangover, bruh.

depends, if he just wants to leave it then it’s not a big deal.

The panels to fix it all only cost a couple hundred bucks (call it <$400 all in). The installation thereof and repainting... that’s where he’s boned unless he’s doing it himself.

The front and the doors, I’m not so worried about. It’s dat ass. Not quite as modular. Thanks for the site.

A Darlington stripe? Nah, it’ll buff out.
Seriously though, looks like the front door skin is peeled back a little, so you’re looking at doors a front fender and if not a new quarter, a hell of a lot of bondo. I wouldn’t call it totaled, but that won’t be cheap.

Dat ass, you have to separate the spot welds over the wheel arch and along the bottom edge. Along the seam with the rear fascia, find the points where it’s brazed and grind those - removing the skin in pieces, which gives you the freedom to separate that seam without distorting the rear fascia edge. When it all gets re-welded, the top where it goes under the trim strip is the pain, because you may end up having to skip weld a tiny bit at a time or drill holes and spot weld. In neither case does it like to stay straight. At the front edge in the door opening, there’s some seaming that is also a pain or can be. (Can you tell I’ve been involved in one of these?)

Maybe the Mercedes just wanted some Darlington stripes.

I would say it’s Shart-your-pants bad.

It’s such a shame though. He kept the interior god-like. It’s easily the cleanest 300D interior I’ve ever seen.

Yeah, it cost me about $60 to fix the car myself (he’ll probably be fine with just the trim pieces, some body filler, and a respray).
