!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! so I figured I’d update with my morning’s attempt at being friendly.

I saw a white 2015 FoST as I was going around a rotary. He came barreling along before finally stopping as I had the right of way.

I gave a two finger wave.

He looked at me like I had 7 heads and each one was screaming a different language.

Dammit all.

I used to wave at FoST drivers (in my FoST) and around DC at least it went pretty well. Wasn’t quite Jeep Wrangler level (nothing is, short of motorcycle riding) but usually worked.

When I had a motorcycle, any sportbike rider and some cruiser riders would wave.

On a bike, it’s annoying, I don’t want to wave. I’m enjoying the road and scenery, and of course, the ride.

In the Miata, I’d get most wave. When I had my C6, I’d get an occassional wave from a vette owner. With my FiST, I haven’t come across another FiST or even a FoST. I’d probaby wave if they did, but I wouldn’t be the first to wave.

In Alabama it is/was pretty customary to wave. When I moved to Florida it was like another world, not 30 miles from the stateline, everything was different. No one waves. Literally within 5 miles of the line each way, you could tell which state you were in without even looking at the sign.

I think the wave is more common — and more generalized — in the South.

I’ve been waved at by random drivers, and even pedestrians. I’ve waved at others, too. Waving usually happens on back country roads or inside residential areas. I’ve never driven anything super special, either, just econoboxes. Currently, I drive an automatic Fiesta sedan.

It’s just a friendliness thing, but that makes sense here, since ‘Texas’ comes from the word ‘Tejas,’ which in turn, comes from the Caddo (a Native American people) word, Teysha, both of which mean ‘friends’ or ‘allies.’

Very coincidently, I got a big thumbs up completely out of the blue yesterday from a guy in a modified yellow FRS.

On state highways in Wyoming, it doesn't matter what you're driving, everyone waves when they see another car. Mind you, it could be an hour between seeing cars in some cases, so that probably makes people much friendlier.
