On vacation with my wife for the week going across NorCal and we stopped in Sacramento for the night. Today is labor day. Apparently parking enforcment does not get labor day off, instead they hand out $52 fucking parking tickets. Really!? $52 is ridiculous. Cue someone commenting about how NY city has $100 parking tickets or some shit. I live in a small town, $10 parking tickets if paid in 48 hours otherwise it’s $25. And no I don’t own a Hyundai, it’s a rental. I have more respect for cars than to own a Hyundai

What I find more interesting is the implication that street cleaning will be performed on Labor Day.

It’s probably steep because it’s a “street cleaning” violation. In the city I live in, tickets are usually $15, but if your car is parked when they’re doing snow removal (they post bright orange signs a week in advance and give all parked cars warnings under the wiper the night before) it’s a $100 ticket, plus whatever it costs them to tow it if you don’t move it. With sweeping, there’s a fixed schedule but they just sweep around the cars and your car will just get sprayed with sand and gravel.

Damn how is that in effect on a national holiday?

All Alternate Side Parking (street cleaning) and no parking/no standing/meter parking signs are suspended in NYC :) my car is currently parked across the street on a Commerical Parking only side.

Yep I am at work on Labor Day like a chump.

You could always just not park illegally...?

We didnt know we were parked illegal. Neither did the other 50+ cars parked on the street that also had tickets. I would have been fine if it was $20, but $50 is a damn jiahd on my wallet

What an ugly POS. Hyundai does make some decent looking cars, but this turd isn’t one of them. But then again, a lot of people don’t like the looks of my Mazda5, so who am I to judge?

I’m surprised that they do street cleaning in areas where you park diagonally. This is the first time I’ve ever seen that.

I once got a ticket in LA for having the nose of my car about 8 inches into a red zone. The ticket wasn’t on the car, but they kept sending it in plain envelopes with no return address. Since creditors were after me at the time I didn’t bother to open letters that didn’t have a return address. That one ended up costing over $600. For being less than a foot into a red zone at the corner of two streets. Fuckers.

I received another ticket for parking on my street during street cleaning hours. Yes, it was between the 0900 and 1200 window in which you weren’t supposed to park there. But the catch is that I parked there AFTER THE STREET CLEANING HAD BEEN COMPLETED! You could see the water and brush marks on the street, but the meter maid followed the letter of the law, not the spirit of it. I didn’t block the street cleaner - I parked there after they finished their work. It took every ounce of strength I could muster not to punch that brain-dead twit to the ground and stomp his head into mush (not that this would have affected his IQ in any measurable way...)

In St. Louis it’s a $10 ticket for parking on street cleaning day. It’s so low that sometimes I’m tempted just to pay it instead of moving my car. Unlike LA, in StL they clean the streets monthly, not weekly, and given all the garbage my neighbors leave in the gutters I’d rather have the streets cleaned.

In Royal Oak where I used to live, $10 if paid within 48 hours, otherwise it’s $25, totally reasonable tickets.

As for the car, it was a between the Hyundai or a Nissa Versa. I took the less hideous one.

I’m not sure I want to live in a world where that Hyundai is the more attractive choice. Give me nice, tall greenhouses, clean instruments, and simple knobs for radio and ventilation. What can I say - styling-wise things have been going downhill since about 1985...

It was a rental car, the ONLY thing I liked about it was the fuel economy. I’m used to driving my V8 truck everywhere so being in something that gets 40 mpg and only cost $30 to fill up was nice for a change
