I came across this horrible scene this afternoon. Can you guess what happened?

Trying to tow it but just wrapped it around the bumper.

Its probably good that happened. If that’s all they are capable of imagine what would have happened if they made out to the street

Bingo!
I went out to show them the proper way to hook up the chain. Neither end had a hook. The end on the tow vehicle was wrapped around the frame and held in place with a coat hanger. The lady handed me a lock to secure the other end of the chain. I wrapped it around a bumper support, secured it with the lock, said a little prayer and told them to be very gentle. They only had a couple of blocks to go. I have no idea if they made it.

I've seen someone do this on a highway with an old beetle but the bumper on that one didn't look like it was falling off

Hah! They are in the left lane of a major collector just north of the intersection with another major collector. Both of the roads are big enough to have two left turn lanes in all four directions. They were backing up traffic through the intersection. That's why I pulled over to help. I would have towed her home, but I wasn't in the truck and I don't carry a tow strap in the WRX.

She picked up the remains of the bumper and stuffed it the back seat. I see duct tape in her future.

Duct tape is a valid strategy.
