Try finding a reference point on this dashboard. This is the reason why I have trouble centering the car in its lane.

Meh, like I guess.

Right there. Corner of the windshield, where the “A” pillar and dash intersect. Usually (more or less, depending on the car and the driver’s height) the lane markings should look like they’re flowing in to here.

I’ve never really liked central gauge clusters like that.

I've tried to do that, but the car is so narrow that I end up left of centre, which my parents find disconcerting.

You sit on the left side of the car. Your left foot sits on the dead pedal (usually). The dead pedal is where your tire is, and therefore also pretty well where the edge of your car is. I try to keep my left foot about a quarter of the way into the lane (from the left edge). An arbitrary car is six feet wide in a lane twelve feet wide, so this keeps you pretty central. If you’re narrower, no big deal, and if you’re wider, this keeps you closer to the shoulder than a potential oncoming lane.
Finding a point central to the dash means you’re looking at the dash and not where you’re going. Looking where you’re going is more important than staying in the absolute centre of the lane.

THANK YOU! This is what I've been trying to tell them.

What be this?

I'm no expert, but I don't think you're supposed to look at the shifter while driving.

Your dad drives an Echo? He’s a hero

No I mean what car is that?

Between the big gauge (speedo?) and the gauge to the right of it? Lol.

Toyota Echo.

Oh

That's not centre. Neither is the speedometer. Neither is the space between the speedometer and the idiot light cluster.

It's nice to drive, just a bit hard to find a centreline of the car.

Lol this interior confuses me so much. It doesn’t help that the picture itself seems off center. The right side of the interior is shown more than the left. AND the seats are adjusted differently!

my xB has a center dash, and it’s not hard at all.

Yes, but the xB’s gauges are straight whereas these gauges are angled towards the driver.

left of center is the way to go - :)
