Kinja'd!!!

This little sucker will be in my hands all weekend. I have some big trees to chop up at my rental house & if I can get ahold of a 36” bar saw I may just be chopping them down to stumps. Any oppos want some free wood? Street view of what’s on the chopping block.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Bonus! I noticed the police suburban in the street views I hope they don’t write any tickets.

Stihls are awesome - powerful, super reliable, east to drop start. Straight arm that upper grip so kickback don’t gitchta...

I have a “farm boss” I think it’s the MS 290 with a 24” bar, very capable saw, cuts a hell of a lot faster than you would expect. Keep that chain sharp and kill some wood.

I just used this saw for this first time a few months ago after my dad gave it to me basicly on permanent loan I guess. Cut a 12” limb off at my father in laws house and after it got all warmed it it was like cutting through butter with a hot knife. I just hope my coworker can come through so I can cut this thing down as far as I can.

I like this 14” for what it is,but I may be heading to the farm store or craigslist if my coworker falls through. I can’t reach my arms around the trunks.

From the street view, it looks like a nice, valuable mature tree. I do see it’s shading out and killing some lawn, though. It also looks tall enough to cause some serious damage if a storm brings it down. General preventive measure, or some indication that it’s not in good health? Either way, have fun with the saw! Keep the chain sharp, work methodically, stay safe, and enjoy!

I love the MS170/171, it’s a great little saw especially at it’s price point, but you’ll need something with a bit more whack for a 36” bar! Aside from the fact that nothing above 16” will actually fit the sprocket, the 171 is 14” max really, otherwise it’ll just bog down and you’ll get nowhere. 36” is normally reserved for forestry saws like the MS880.

As Highlander says, the Farm Boss MS290, or the MS260 are some of the best groundwork saws for bars around 20”-24”, so it may be worth seeing if you can get hold of one of them?
