On a day themed on hungry cars, you didn’t think I’d be able to post, but you’re wrong!
Meet the 2006 smart formore. This SUV was the vehicle that the USA was supposed to get instead of the fortwo. It’s based on a C-Class 4Matic. After smart had built and tooled the plant, then built one production example; smart pulled the plug. All 27+ mules were destroyed then the production model and its concept twin were stored away in a MBZ warehouse.
So what happened? No monies! The release of the roadster and the forfour were so badly timed and the roadster was so unreliable, that smart just couldn’t risk putting another model out on the market. After the failure of the formore, the company itself was liquidated and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz. A year later, the world got the W451.
Some design elements did carry over into the 451 fortwo, namely the tridion cell accented grille and the taillights.
It’s interesting to think that there are only two of these cars in the entire world.

There are two! The current one is based on the Twingo.
The first one was based on the Mitsubishi Colt.

It would’ve basically performed like a C-Class on a lift kit. xD
