Bought in to the upgrade plan. I don't know weather I can trust them later.

Sprint vs. everyone else. I have been with Sprint for fifteen (15) years. That is long enough for them to throw deals at me-Including the Galaxy S6 for a $3/month lease with the current plan I have now-which is unlimited data and a whole lot of minutes. (Both of which I never use enough of)

Sprint still honors the 2-year upgrade plan I have historically had in the last decade and a half. Phones are heavily discounted for this plan. For example, I and my wife were all set to get the Galaxy S5 for $99 and an extension of the current plan mentioned above. I walked in and was told in the store, “Oh, it looks like your eligible for our upgrade promotion. A $3 lease on the S6.” I said, “What if I don’t want the iPhone?” She corrected me. Here I was ready to dump $200 on two phones (S5 or One-M8) before protective cases, and she stumps me with this.

Now this is the problem. I asked them many things. I asked them about forcing changes in my my plan as a result. Nope. No changes. I asked about the lease kicking me out of the 2-year upgrade plan. Nope. If I want to do the 2-yeah discounted phone purchase, I could do it then if it was still around. Question after questions I couldn’t find a downside to the deal.

We bought in to the deal. Since I am good with my phones and haven’t had to do any insurance claims since 2004, I ditched the $11/month I’ve been paying since on that insurance and in the end, saw my monthly bill go down $5. Two years later, we turn in the phone and as long as the screen isn’t cracked and it hasn’t been literally dunked in water, I owe nothing and can change what we do. (Again, I haven’t had to do anything for breakage and insurance in literally 10+ years)

Near as I can tell, Sprint’s deal is to get enough people off of the 2-year upgrade purchase plan and into leasing so it can end that program for good due to lack of interest. Leasing is the new industry model to move equipment.

I don’t trust an angle when I can’t see any downside.

“Why don’t you trust me?”

“I want to. I can’t see through you enough.”

The downside is that you don’t get to keep the phone, so they get it back at the end of your lease period, at which point they can recycle it (for monies), donate it to low-income families/third-world communities (for tax breaks), or sell it as a refurb to customers who don’t qualify for the lease program.
