I want a simple 250cc Honda or Kawasaki to use around town. This is why I can’t have one. Bandit is sad.

But if they run you over and you live, you can take advantage of a huge cash settlement.

I’m not really into bikes, but if you want one and can assume the risk you should be able to get one. But whoever you’re texting is basing you getting a bike after a single accident two years ago. That's kinda silly.

whoever that was, is right, Damn texters. Also, you’ll shoot your eye out kid.

I'm the same. 24 years old, don't live at home anymore, but my Dad really doesn't want me on a bike. I'd want a Minsk, though. Maybe an Ural (no sidecar).

DO IT ANYWAY

I had to wait until I was on my own before I could buy one.
24 years later, and I don’t miss those few years I didn’t have one.

My mother, accident was two hours ago.

What I’m reading between the lines here, is, you should drive the International around town because it’s easier to see than anything, let alone a bike.

Just think of all the sweet wheelchair ramps you could buy with all that money!

The T/A has been in the shop for a week and the mechanics don’t know what is wrong. I’m going to be so poor later.

Nevermind, read that totally wrong and thought it said “years” ago. Yeah, listen to your mother.

Same with my mom. She said not until I’m a junior. It would be very convenient on campus. They let you park anywhere you fit.

It is safe because it cant go more than 45mph and if I crash the steering column will stab right through me so I won’t have to deal with the insurance people!

If you’re in college then you’re an adult and can make your own decisions...unless momma is footin your bills, in which case you better listen to her

He’d be swimming in wheelchair ramps!

See, that’s why you drive the International with a flak vest and a GI helmet on. Duh.

Bonus points if they were messaging you that while driving.

I already have both. I should make that happen! Just like driving the Trans Am with a red button down, cowboy hat, and fake mustache.

shame, Bandit 400 is a great bike, and fitting with your name :D

Everyone everywhere is always texting and driving. If you ride, the most important thing you pay attention to is everyone else on the road. I don’t even really pay attention to what I’M doing. As long as you ride defensive, you should be OK save for the always plausible rear-ending at a stoplight where you can do nothing to prevent it.

...and a mullet wig. True story, one of my several brothers (the one who actually owns a mullet wig) is going to be riding a motorcycle with an open face helmet and is considering wearing his lower face paintball kabuki mask with it. One kind of like this:

They made a movie about that kinda thing.
My advice: Take MSF course. Buy gear. Buy bike. Don’t be dumb.

It needs an LS swap. That’s whats wrong.

Motorcylces and relatives: Better to ask forgiveness than permission.

Of course you can have a bike... a bicycle...
LOL

I’m damn near 30 and my mom won’t “let” me have a bike either.

I told my mother if it was going to cost more than $600 to fix the engine, a 4.8L LS will be swapped in. I’m not joking about that either. I’ll start gathering parts and driving around on my clapped out 400.

Same here.

Wait. Why is that frame made of wood?

T/A - 4.8 would look silly on the scoop though.

Well... mine came from the factory with only 4.9 so.....

I wanna see T/A - 8.1 on there

They make bamboo bicycles about 20 miles away from me. They were even featured on How It’s Made.

I was in Houston last Veterans Day eating at a local Applebees. They give free meals to vets, so I ended up sitting at the bar next to a homeless guy who served in Vietnam. It was supposed to drop below freezing that night so he asked me for some money so he could get a hotel room that night. His lisp and demeanor made me think he had some sort of intellectual disability, or that maybe he was injured in the war. I got to talking to him and he told me he played trumpet or sax or something at a jazz club after he got back from the war.
One day he was riding his motorcycle around Houston when a tractor trailer stopped short and he crashed right into it. No helmet. He showed me the depression in his head where they had to remove the part of his skull that hit the rear fender. That was the moment when I decided I didn’t want a motorcycle anymore.
Obviously he should have been wearing a helmet, and riding a motorcycle can be perfectly safe (if it weren’t for other cars on the road). Every has heard the horror stories, but actually meeting someone who crashed once, and had his life severely altered because of it just scared the shit outta me.

My mom has always been that way too. So living 200 miles away from home I was having her help me find a new car (she is wicked good at finding deals). Any way I found a 2001 911 for sale for a great price (it didn’t work out) so when I went to check it out I borrowed my roommate’s motorcycle cause I had my licence and drove there and back. She wasn’t happy, but got her off my back about riding bikes.

That bike is actually a carbon fibre bike and if you look at a larger version of that pic, it doesn't look like wood
![]() 09/01/2015 at 00:54 |

The crank set is carbon but the frame is actually bamboo (reverse gis’d it a few hours ago). The thing costs around $3,500 which is stupid because you can buy a decent all carbon bike for less.

Ah... I thought I was posting a carbon fiber bike with an interesting colour scheme. Didn’t realize bamboo bicycles were a thing.
