I was quickly reminded that it is an instant PITA just getting to the filter and drain bolt. So many undertray bolts. Argh. Although, I am thankful it has an undertray as it keeps the engine bay clean as a side effect.

Apart from that, the dipstick location and design is one of the worst I’ve ever used. It hits the intake duct on removal and if you’re not careful the end of the stick will snag on a gap between a what I call a “dipstick guide” and the dipstick tube itself.

Of course... the later generation VQ35HR and onward get a front mounted dipstick.

Anyways, this is what I put in the car. I figure it has to be better than whatever contract oil the stealership put in before me:

Shoot, if you had an oil extractor pump... you’d never have to go underneath.

I can get to my drain plug without lifting the car as well ;)

Wait wut? You just mean you don’t need a jack, right? Crawling underneath my G is my second-most time-consuming task. Number one is Jalopnik.

Wish I could give a few more stars to that second point lol!

I’ve got a quick drain valve, remove oil filler cap, reach under car, open valve, change filter, close valve, fill with fresh oil reinstall fill cap. That’s it, omitting nothing at all. Don’t even need tools.

The oil filter is so easy to get to on the g35! Just requires taking off all those damn bolts. And I agree the dipstick is an idiotic design. Have you done an air filter yet? That’s a serious pain that I’ve yet to figure would the easiest way to do.

Yes, I’d agree its extremely easy AFTER taking off the numerous bolts and undertray. See, I’m accustom to VW/Audi vehicles and having quarter turn fasteners that hold the tray on. They can be taken off with a simple flat blade screwdriver.

I’ve done the air filter twice now. It isnt too bad compared to other vehicles out there. I remove the “power duct” and the longer portion attached to it first. Then, unbolt the airbox and unclip the clamps holding it together. This should give you just enough wiggle room to carefully maneuver the old filter out and vice versa. You do want to be careful and make sure everything is lined up at the corners and below. The filter obviously needs to seated correctly between the two case halves.

Yeah that’s what I do for the filter. Still pretty tight getting it in! Have you done much else to yours?

Nope. Ironically it came with Strup headers when I bought it... but has absolutely nothing else done to it that I can tell.

My plans might be just suspension, bushings and brakes. I think I’m going to turn it into a summer only car at some point. (we have the winter)

BTW this is my second G35. Its got half the miles than the first one did and it is a year newer (05 vs 06).

Nice. I take it this is a coupe? I’ve got an 06 G35x. It’s all stock but I’ve replaced the brakes, filters, and battery. Pretty much no other issues!
