On September 10th 2001, I bought a new 2002 35th Anniversary Camaro SS. Five years later I had a marketing degree under my belt and I worked for a prominent Corvette parts company. I found a cheap camshaft from GM Performance, and I wondered why a new cam and valve springs was under $400. The reason is I chose the ASA cam. The ASA series is mostly dirt track late model racing in the midwest, and they used sealed LS1 engines with a monster cam. In order to use all stock components, the ASA cam is low lift (.525 on intake and exhaust), lower even than the stock 2002 Z06 cam. The difference is in the duration and overlap. Its 226/236 duration on a 110 degree centerline. This means I have stupid low end torque, and the sound of a vintage muscle car. For Shyts and Giggles I got her out of storage yesterday so the clueless teens working the Chic-Fil-A drive though could have a listen.
Sure it sucks gas in every situation, but dat lope though...

I also have a 2800 rpm torque converter, shift kit, dual transmission coolers, and open headers

The LS1 just sounds so good, even through a stock exhaust.

I tend to disagree. I have a similar cam in my MC. Stock lift, longer duration. I gained a lot of HP on a motor that produced 55 rear wheel hp and now produces 73. All the while keeping reliability. After some 120.000 miles, it still has not caused me any grief.

My grief comes from the GM 0411 pcm and its limitations with narrow band O2 sensors

I have no idea why I’ve never had a car with a V8.

You need to own one, at least once

nice, I wanted to cam my 98 Camaro SS soo bad when I had it, loved the sound of both the GM Hot Cam and ASA, wasn’t looking for more power since the car was my everyday car at the time. Ended up selling the car last April and bought a 2014 Camaro SS/RS, and then put a new cam in my 68 Camaro SS/RS.
