Nikon VR lenses rock.

Yeah they do. I went from an 18-200 to 18-300. It's a marked improvement in almost everything except maybe corner sharpness. I basically never change lenses.

18-300? nice, should be a great all purpose outdoor lens.

Neat. I’ll be interested to hear your experiences with it. I have a Tamron of similar reach and speed (18-270, f/3.5-6.3) and it makes a great travel lens. It’s a bit slow for indoor use, and not as sharp as my big 70-200, but for spending the day out and not wanting to change lenses or carry two bodies it’s great.

I specifically wanted this for f/3.5-5.6, the other Nikkor 18-300 is 6.3 at 300 and I wanted the extra speed. Otherwise, your Tamrons going to be really similar I think.

My thoughts exactly.

I’m scared to ask: Care to share how much it set you back?

I shoot Canon, but I’m just wondering, what is the difference in price for that one f stop difference in speed?

A grand. But I'll get rid of my 18-200 now so that will offset the price.

The 6.3 is a good bit more compact though, so there's also that.

My wife’s most recent lens purchase is the Tamron 70-200 F2.8. I’m even able to get good pictures with that thing! The bokeh, THE BOKEH!

How do you like it? I got myself the old one (D5100) a couple months ago and I'm really enjoying it :)

It's absolutely fantastic. The 5300 and 5500 don't add any features I care about (GPS and a larger LCD and stuff like that). I think there was a bit of jump between the 5100 and the 5200 though so if you get the chance to trade I would def suggest it. What lenses do you use?

Right now I've just got the 18-55mm and 55-200mm AF-S lenses. That's my budget for now

I would strongly suggest selling both lenses and buying a used 18-200, I absolutely loved that lens and you won't ever miss a shot.

I'll look into that. I've got a good used/open box store near me, so I can probably get a good deal too.
