Similar to the truck that was on that original list on the FP the other day, this guy has a 2006 Chevy pickup that he thinks is worth $47,000. 92k miles. “Over 70k invested,” he says. I love searching Craigslist for the term “invested.”

Rare is great, too. “Lifted” is good, but narrows the field some - mostly it’s either things lifted beyond usefulness (brodozer) or things that are beaten to death and the owner thinks they have something of value. Nope, you built a mud truck and used it, good for you (seriously). Now it’s scrap.

Oversized trucks and minivans are the two places where I don’t see the benefit of a manual. You know that thing shifts like a school bus, and has a power band shorter than my knuckle hair.
The miles are lower than other examples you’ll find, but the price is more than double what a cursory cars.com search reveals.

True, but I just have a soft spot for all manuals. We had a V10 1-ton ford at a marina where I worked, and I loved it. But then that was a gas V-10, regular cab, and it was pretty fun to drive actually.
I think you’re right, though, that for $10k you could have a nice diesel truck from that era. While this is really nice for its age, it’s just not really nice enough for what it is - a big bad work truck.

A. The manual helps a lot in towing, due to being able to better control the power band. B. Most auto’s from back then just weren’t that good, nor could they handle the torque that well.
Also, pre-emissions diesels are holding/gaining value, especially low mileage ones. He might not get 20k, but I’d almost bet he’ll get close.

Price seems pretty fair, I can’t say I wouldn’t aim lower (or that I’d buy it at all) though.
And the wrangler incident is why “RARE” is so god damn funny.
