So my aunt is looking into buying a Mazda. A Mazda 3 GT with the Luxury Package. The 2015 model costed $28,819. The 2016 model? Well...
It costs $32,374. That’s a price increase of $3555! In fact, a loaded CX-3 is over $1000 CHEAPER and it has AWD. I don’t care how good it is, no regular compact car is worth over $30,000 before tax.

Well there’s a good story

Remember that our dollar is currently worth nothing.

I think it’s worth about 15% more yen than last year at this time.

I would be totally open to having you guys be able to come south of the border to get cars without tariffs and such.

While looking for a new car, we test drove and priced a Mazda 3. After driving, we sat down at the salesman’s desk, and he put together our price. For a lease, it was going to cost us $30 more a month than a mid-size Altima. When I pointed out that I could just walk over to dealer X, get an Altima with a usable back seat, and still save money, their only counter was “but the mileage isn’t as good.”
Everyone screams about how awesome Mazdas are...and I will agree that I liked driving the 6 that I later tested more than any of the other mid-size cars (we eventually chose an Accord). I couldn’t justify the additional price and the stupid bullshit from the dealer to get a car that had less features. I mean, come on...it costs more than all the others, has cloth seats and no power driver’s seat? You can’t keep saying “ZOOM ZOOM!” and think it’s going to make up for the other crap you’re trying to pull.
Edit: I’ll admit that my experience probably would’ve been better at a less crappy dealer...but it turned me off nonetheless.

I like the CX-3. I’d totally rock an AWD one.

Christ. That’s more than I paid for my CX-5 GT FWD. I have literally every option other than AWD on it and I paid $29,215 plus tax. Yes, this was 2.5 years ago it is true... but still. That’s the same price for a 2016 MX-5 GT. I don’t think that even a Mazda6 GT loaded costs that much.
Wait. What country are you in? I just went through the configuration myself and it doesn’t come anywhere close to $32K. Are you in Canada?

Sounds like “fantasy” MSRP pricing. I’m guessing there is a lot of bargaining room there.
I suggest picking up a local newspaper and see what local sales there are.
OR go on autotrader and look at what’s available from 2015-2016 in the spec you want. I did a search for a Mazda 3 Hatchback with automatic and leather and found a ton of them in the $24K to $25K range (US prices). And here is a loaded new one for about $30K:

And if you’re in Canada, here’s a loaded one with only 10,000km on it going for $27K:

Yup, Canada.

Isn’t it great being Canadian?
Just don’t look at the price of the new Miata, we’ll both feel worse...

Its sad but true.

I’ve noticed that price disparity down the states as well - the 3 is as much or more than a CX-5 in some cases. Just put the good 2.5 motor in the normal S Sport with the good cloth seats and don’t ask for double the profit margin...

But here’s the thing. The Mazda 3 is so much better than its competitors that they can charge whatever they want.

yeah... hate that...
