I have good savings and generally good financial grounding. This was a completely unexpected bonus in addition to a raise in salary.
Saving it will likely be the end result but my wife wants me to at least come with some ideas to blow it on something for myself.

Lol, I already have a Land Rover, what more fun/finance-pain-olympics do you want from me?

I would never buy bitcoins, but I can do a fair bit of mining for bitcoin hashes.

Buy this http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/5189633102…
Swap the gear box and transfer case into your Disco. The pickup on the transfer case is the same bolt pattern so you can re-use your t-case pickup.

I am approaching 30 and have:
Zero student loan debt
Zero credit card debt
Learn how I did it by clicking this link and work from home with google. i just bought 3 craigslist miatas and 1 carmax range rover “DeMuro” edition.
But I do know the feeling of making adult decisions. I have been working my ass off lately and so I think I might end up getting something just for me.

No SL debt here, only mild credit card debt (i think most of my debt was accrued when i drop as much as i could from checking on the down payment for the car and ran off cc’s for a month or so to recoup). It’s nothing that’s unmanageable, that’s for sure.

Do you have high interest debt? If so pay that off. If not then invest the money. Don’t buy shit with it.

You can do what I do and spend 2 weeks looking at all the fun things you could buy with it, then ultimately just put it in a savings account.

Then save the money for later investing. Or even better, watch out for when the market starts recovering and buy cheap.

Dude, I am literally the least likely person in the whole damned world to begin investing in the stock market. the only investments I want to make are in purchasing and renting out commercial real estate and owning and operating Chick-Fil-a franchises.
I do not believe that the stock market is truly built in a way that normal (re. not pre-existingly wealthy) people such as myself can actually become successful.

It’s kinda easy, really. The are no solutions, advice, etc. available unless it’s you with your situation fully in place, and I’m not you.... so whatever you do, don’t accept anything said here that isn’t *you*. That said, there’s me and what I’d do. Maybe you’d find that useful, maybe not.
I always used these types of things to do something outside of what I’d do normally. Ima weirdo for sure, because I always figured that I’d make what I was interested in work within the normal parameters, not within the bonus parameters. So I’d always take these types of things as a gift and spend them for my future (that I couldn’t see coming). Whether that was things, or experiences, depended. I’ve used both, but in any case, it wasn’t something that I was planning. I used the bonus to *expand* what I would have done normally, not accelerate it (since I always figured the accelerated thing would have happened anyway.)
In my case, that manifested in two ways. In house capabilities that I would never have done without the bonus (in my case, furniture building tech that included being able to cleanly slice a 4’x8’ piece of plywood with a glass smooth cut in any config/angle/whatever) and travel experiences (to places I would never have gone) without the bonus.
But that was me, not you. I’d encourage you to take what you have and spend it on something outside your normal patterns. Patterns are stable, give satisfaction, but are dangerous. They can become ruts. Use the bonus to jack yourself out of the rut of normal behavior whatever that means to you.

Wow, this is actually the best and most useful tidbit of info I have received in a long while. Thank you.
