Pretty much almost the most Epicest bestest game ever (not really though, but it looks similar to Wolfenstein 3d)

The gif doesn’t have the part where you run into the stone thing and flip upside down, though. Nor the animated seizure-fractal option for walls. Oh well.

i remember it too well sadly.

Ehh I would say that 7 or 10 are better than 95 by a long shot. It was great in it’s time, but not having to reinstall every couple of months is pretty nice.

Windows 95 really was a game changer for desktops on PCs. There was an upgrade that I vaguely recall that made it even better (better than the first release of 98, in my opinion at the time), but I cannot recall the name.
It wasn’t until they pushed their OS/2 (NT) downmarket that they surpassed that. Even then, they had to mimic it for general acceptance.
I kind of miss those days. Things were so much more authentic and relatively transparent in tech back then.
Oh yes, that “Get Windows 95” would be funnier if it was the right logo.

Remind me again...95 ran on DOS, but didn’t 98 finally break from DOS? Or was that 2000?
I mean, they still wisely kept the CMD prompt in there for the old-timers.

Yep. But I’m pretty sure it was inspired by Casle Wolfenstein 3D or Catacomb 3D.

NT3 came out in 93 or 94... and was DOS free.
95/98/Me were DOS based and 2000 was an upgraded NT4... and XP was essentially a replacement of 9x/Me and based on Windows 2000.

I still have a tower somewhere with Windows 95 on it. Last I checked (about three years ago) it still worked fine, I should fire it up some time...

Our very first computer was a Pentium 133MHz with 32 MB EDO RAM, a 4x CD ROM, 2.1 GB hard drive, and 28.8k modem. It ran Windows 95, and was with us until just a few years ago.

20 years later, Microsoft was forced to return the Start Button to that Bastardized-OS-That-We-Shall-Not-Name [initiate death glare at Windows 8].
The only real interface change that Microsoft has since made is ribbons (and even that brought out the torches and pitchforks). Everything else is just an evolution of something originally in Windows 95.
THEY WILL TAKE MY START BUTTON FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS.

lots of kernel changes as well, but in terms of interface, not a whole lot when you boil it down.
