THe Mega GG1?
They had a big dose of ‘Murcia in the 70’s
I mean watch this Majestic beast 3
![]() 08/21/2015 at 13:18 |

I second.

I suppose now that Tesla exists the official Oppo train doesn't need to be a combustion engine.

I’d prefer this one ^
But if we’re going to be serious for a moment... we’d really need something like this:
Because we’d need something that is sporty, stylish, older, and a bit exotic. Bonus points for being made on the other side of the Atlantic too.

Gonna have to suggest the 611 train, because local-ish, the sound, and “dat livery”
![]() 08/21/2015 at 13:31 |
|
You want Exotic?
How about the S1?
![]() 08/21/2015 at 13:32 |
|
Yes but 611 is an Icon that’s alive, the GG1 is gone.

I have always preferred the Santa Fe Locomotive

Overstyled, complex Loewy design that reached for the stars but in some respects was a boondoggle, pretty much defining Cool But Impractical for the train world? Now of interest mainly to topic nerds? Sounds good.

What about a hybrid.

That’s just wrong.

You can have a steam locomotive, and zero emissions, everybody wins! I can’t remember why this happened exactly, I think it was related to a shortage of coal but an abundance of hydropower during WWII.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 13:48 |

Gonna have to suggest the Baldwin DR12-8-3000 aka Centipede. Why?
- Diesel? Check, with a pair of straight eight turbocharged 1500hp each beasts
- Long roof? Check, boy howdy. Each unit was eighty feet long (two back to back in photo)
- Manual transmission? N/A - diesel electric
- Brown? Well how about Brunswick Green? Sorta close...
- Exotic? Very. Only three railroads had ‘em.

The Deltic is the RX7 of Locomotives
The RX7 is made by Mazda
Mazda also make the MX5
But choosing The RX7 over the MX5 is the Hipster thing to do
Hipster = Indie
Oppo is independent of Jalopnik
Therefore Oppo is indie which is Hipster which is the RX7 which is the Deltic
I rest my case.

Must be brown

No! A magical train to a magical place! Heh.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:07 |
|
Now those things were nutty
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:07 |

I’d actually go with the Q2 over the S1. Brawny, muscular, highest horsepower steam locomotives every built in multiples....
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:08 |
|
Also Seaboard had it in brown
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:10 |

He can change that. He’s a magical train that came from a magical place
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:10 |

:(
Well how about the ALCO DL-109?
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:16 |

That’s scary! Why you trying to give me nightmares, Cherry? :(

That first black and gold one looks so Lotus. That’s my vote. Beauty.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:31 |

what about the A3 jinty?
not a lot of power, but small, light, and nimble. it's kind of the Miata of the train world if you ask me!
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:33 |

It’s only Diesel 10~
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:36 |

Unlike some gifs, this one correctly shows that the pistons in each cylinder are slightly out of phase.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:55 |

Nope. This is the official train of Oppo.
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:57 |

Holy shit it's a model I just thought it was a bad picture
![]() 08/21/2015 at 14:58 |

no, its just a good picture of a model. ha

Union Pacific GTEL or GTFO because gas turbine-electric locomotive with 8,500 hp and 212,312 lbf of tractive effort (the Big Boy has about 135,375 lbf for reference).
![]() 08/21/2015 at 15:13 |

I second the 611. It’s the locomotive equivalent of the Ford GT. Great looks, great noise, fast, and it is 100% ‘Murican.

Pullman Green according to the SAL’s own paint diagrams...but it weathered fairly quickly to a greenish brown in the South...

I think we have a winner here. I withdraw my submission of this:

GG1 is probably the best fit. My dad was fortunate enough to ride on one of these. Said it pulled like no other train he ever rode on.
But my vote goes to the M-1
