After driving both the new CTS-V and ATS-V today, I actually came away prefering the ATS-V. This is weird because in regular non-V form, I definitely prefer the CTS. What put me over the edge? During development, the ATS-V was known internally as the Scalpel, and the CTS-V the Sledgehammer. Both are perfectly appropriate. The CTS-V was absolutely brutal and beautiful stupid fun. But the ATS-V was one of the most pure and perfect driver’s car I’ve ever had the pleasure of piloting.

Hell, I’d take the ATS-V over the CTS-V. It looks better anyways, now if only it had an optional LT1.....
Nah, the turbocharged whatever V6 in there is good enough!
Right...........................?

I’ll take the tuneability and the stronger bottom end of the boosted 6 any day.

But V8...

The ATS-V is seriously giving the M4 a run for its money.. And I’m a noted BMW fan. Love the looks, haven’t driven one so I can’t comment but everyone seems to love it. The road presence of these is awesome too. You really don't see many ATS (V or not) coupes out there.

I with you, V8 > TT V6 for the same power. Dem noises tho.

Man I wish I could have been with you on that drive! I prefer the looks of the ATS.

Pretty sure you can tune an N/A motor, and what proof have you got that the bottom end on this motor is stronger than the LT1? Or are you simply saying that because it’s turbocharged. ( o_o)

I feel like if I had the choice between the two I’d pick the ATS as well. I always hear great things about how it drives (same with the CTS but the ATS is smaller and probably more chuckable) and I love the 3.6 in its NA form so I can only imagine how great it is with two turbos strapped on.

What noises

Well, unless it’s inferior to pretty much every other factory turbo engine, it is stronger due to the extra stresses of forced induction, i.e. stock internal Ecoboost 3.5’s pushing over 500whp and 700ft.lbs, or the Ford GT that pushes well into the high three digits on the stock block. Also, while the LT1 is tuneable, it will take more money to see the same gains. Plus, I just don’t get the fascination with V8’s. If I wanted low end torque, I’d get something does a better job of it, like a boosted engine or a diesel. Boosted V8’s are awesome, but stock NA V8’s are going away for a reason.

Actually he’s right. The stock block from the ATS-V is the same one as the ATS-V R Cadillac runs in the Pirelli World Challenge. The same can not be said of the 6.2 block they ran in the CTS-V R they were running before.

Vs are actually not on lots yet. But you are completely right about the presence. The design is breathtakingly bold and yet strikingly refined as well. Nothing else in this increasingly derivative (4-Series, A5) or fugly (Lexus RC) class comes even close.

I mean, I get what you’re saying. But the mountains of torque the TTV6 produced are unreal.

Oh believe me, I know. My cars a TTV6 and I'm torque spoiled, but still. I'd be willing to accept less low end torque just for V8 sound.

Well believe me, this thing sounds brutal. It’s almost V8-like.

V8 LT1 noises of course!

Sorry my last post should have said TTV8, mp not 6. Also, that's cool...is it audible from inside the car?

Yea but were talking ‘bout a small block chevy here. I don’t need a factory race team to tell me it will have a strong bottom end. It just will.

It is. They use a set of amplifying hardware to let a little more engine noise into the cabin. Not unlike the butterfly valves that open when performance cars have an adjustable exhaust.

But this new engine is like the GNX’s grandson

The reviews are pretty interesting IMO. Better handling characteristics than the M4. Definitely impressed me.

Stronger bottom end you say?

There’s still a lot of anti-Cadillac automotive journalism. I’ve read both of the comparison tests, and both times the other 2 cars were praised for having things that the V actually does have also. Unfortunately, they view it as an also-ran before even setting foot inside it, so it never gets a fair shake.

That’s an iron block LS, which hold a good bit more power than aluminum block LS engines.

The disappointing grandson. GNX hit 60 faster than a Testarossa, the ATS-V won't come close to an F12.
