I think that German was the primary language for a significant minority of Americans before WWI. The world wars made German a bit less popular.

Yup. My dad’s family changed its name and stopped speaking German for that reason after WW1, they were first gen immigrants at that time.

What’s really fucked up is that “Germany is the enemy” was pretty much all Wilson’s idea before he managed to get the USA into the war on the side of the Entente. There was major public support for Germany until the Germans unwittingly gave Wilson’s propaganda machine the spark of truth it was missing when they sunk the Lusitania and sent the Zimmerman Telegram.
And the Lusitania wasn’t even innocent.

It appears that you are correct. The crown was added in 1937, which would make that the Leichtensteinball circa WWI.
