Opinions? 1996 K2500 Suburban

(Not the actual truck.. I should be so lucky!)

I have an opportunity to buy a 96 Suburban 2500 4x4 with the ubiquitous Chevy Tree Fiddy power plant for $400.

It’s been used as a truck but well maintained. Many new parts including fuel lines, brake lines, brakes, belts, hoses, and battery. All within the last year if the seller is being honest.

Many dings and a big dent where he jack knived his boat trailer.

The bad is that on occasion he gets oil in the coolant. No coolant in the oil though.

It could be as simple as an intake gasket or as involved as a Head Gasket.

I’m thinking it’s worth a gamble. It’s gotta be worth at least that in scrap.

Worst case scenario(likely scenario): engine is super cheap fix, runs like a top for a few days, then the transmission fails.

My 99 has 274000 on it. Headgasket is really easy too.

Pretty sure 2500s only came with the 454. But either way, great deal. Ive owned several. I think that 454 is the best gas motor to ever tow a boat or pull a stump.

I replied to his text almost instantly. Hes been a bit flaky from day one though.

I kinda want to retire old Crusty before the front suspension falls out and that Burb would have been perfect.

We had a 97 k2500 with the vortec 7400 and it was a good workhorse
