So I have a 06 GTO that I have been dailying and my BF also need a car when I am not around. So since I work at a Subaru dealership, a old WRX would be good for keeping the miles off the GTO and would be good for him to drive. Manual, awd, and good support means a good car to drive and we could take it up to the mountains. So I started looking at my local CL and there wasn’t much, so I expanded the search and because I live on the California coast between SF and LA, that search included those cities and the surrounding areas and I am particularly shocked at the prices! I I want one that isn’t too modded out, not beaten up, and with a clean title I am looking at at least $8,000. Now I know these are neat cars, but its from 2002-04 (for these prices), the interiors aren’t anything to speak of, and most of them have around 100k miles at that price. Why? I just don’t understand. Especially when they all look like this piece of shit.

Kinja'd!!!

When all I really want is a simple clean WRX like this:

Kinja'd!!!

I just want to put on roof racks, some tint cause I hate the fish bowl effect, and enjoy a decent DD car ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ). Also it would have to be the sedan, cause I just hate the look of the Imp Wagon for some reason. Just so ugly. *shutters* Any how, anyone have leads on clean ones not costing newer car money?

Because simple, clean, and not modded-out is rare for a WRX. The longer they’re on the road, the greater their chances increase of being riced the fuck out.

I think what you are looking for is like one of these:

Kinja'd!!!

That being said every once in a while I see one pop up on Craigslist for <$8k and wish I had the cash to go buy it.

Aw man, I kinda like the red one haha. I usually don’t go for modded cars.

WRX’s are tough to buy because they are hugely popular. Also as you have found, it’s really tough to find an unadulterated example.

They’re like the jeep wrangler, even when you find one and you think “hmm, thats not in that bad of condition, I bet I could take it for 5k.” Nope, 10k.

The WRX is fantastic car though, I had a 2005 and I can honestly say that it’s the only car that I have ever owned that I beat on frequently. I broke exhaust welds (sliding around on dirt roads in my Vermont days) and I whacked it out of alignment a few times, but other than that no problems... and I put almost 50k on it in 15 months.

Well I don’t mind a few tasteful mods, but why are they always crap stupid 12yo BS?

Yeah, good luck finding a clean Bugeye. They don’t exist. I’ll keep my eyes open for one though. I do know of a super clean low miles ‘04 STi available locally if you want to stretch to that. Also, you might consider a 2.5RS, they’re fun too, with shorter gearing than the WRX.

I bought a clean title sti that didn’t even have an exhaust on it for $9200. Only needed carpet, headliner, and a rear bumper (paint damage). Look for one with easily reversible mods, or look at a saabaru (much better looking wagon). Most saabarus I found were stock.

Subaru pricing in general tends to be a bit insane. They really do hold their value like nothing else on the road.

I bought a nearly bone stock 2003 wrx in 2013 for about 7k. Sold it a year and a half later with a new ding and gash in the roof, courtesy of my bicycle, for about 8.5k. Good luck.

I’ve been looking at Imprezas and Outback Sports of the same vintage, and even they seem to run high for what they are. It’s disappointing because they’d be a perfect DD for me.

I was only looking at the older ones cause they are cheaper. Newer is fine. I kinda wanted a WRX cause the STI is a blit to flashy, but I would be happy for more info on that STI.

Was briefly looking for a replacement Subaru recently and got frustrated with the same thing. Don’t even look at STi prices - absolutely nothing with a clean title in reasonable condition for under $20K.

The red one is nice, but the cheap one on CL are like that, but shitty. I just couldn’t find a good picture of shit.

But I just don’t understand such a common car being so desirable, that older versions aren’t cheaper. I mean its just a Subaru. I am around them all day. Now I guess I see why the kids mom paid the money she did to replace the blown up WRX motor he had.
