The comments on the Papa John article are disgusting. So much vitrol and hatred for the man. I could only make it through several comments before I closed out jalopnik altogether. When did the front page become Daily Kos?

Well I mean his pizza is pretty terrible. Although I could be biased living in chicago and all

Well if they don’t like his business practices they have every right to not buy his pizza and to voice their opinion. Stealing peoples shit is never acceptable though.

What did he do that made them angry? I am from Canada so might not have heard about it. I was going to ask on the article but figured I would get a calmer response here.

When the guy is a dick to me.

He probably hates them just as much so it all evens out.
I’m just mad that he’s been cheapening his pizzas over the years. They’re nothing like they used to be 10 years ago.

People tend to say stupid shit they normally wouldn’t say when there’s a computer screen or a car door protecting them.

He’s a hard-line opponent of the US’s national healthcare act and threw a shit-fit when it was passed saying he’d have pass the cost on to consumers instead of taking 20 cents per pizza out of his profits since he’s worth $600 million (keep in mind that 20 cents represents about 4% of his profit per pizza judging by how the restaurant I work at does it). He’s also supported far-right-wing Republicans candidates in political elections which you know the Gawker crowd just loves.

It was sad to read all of that hate - and these are the exact people that proclaim love, acceptance, and tolerance. I don’t know the guy, but he lost something he cared for and that sucks. He might be a jerk, I might not agree with his politics, but why on earth would I revel in his misery? It’s just plain mean.

His company regularly gives away millions of free pizzas for promotions but he can’t afford to absorb $0.15 per pizza to cover his employees under the Affordable Care Act? He’s a twat.

Sadly being a dick is not limited to a single political stance.

No, it’s pretty terrible in canada too.

Holy shit this. You have no idea how many times I hear shit like ‘Goddamn right wing fascists!” or “Fucking leftards” or something similar because someone of that political stance said or did something they don’t like.

To me, the difference is that no one gives a shit when my stuff gets stolen, but the rich guy loses a toy and the world must cease functioning until it's returned? Sorry, but no.

Number one, John Schnatter’s a dick all right.
But I still think it’s no good that his car got stolen.
But I feel a lot more sympathy for the thousands of other people who also got their cars stolen, because, being a multi-millionaire, he can afford the financial hit a lot more easily than most of them. It’s the same thing I think when I see some rich playboy has packed up his La Ferrari or Porsche 918 while frivolously hooning on the public roads and all the car nuts are all “oh NO what a tragedy!!!1!” What’s a real tragedy is when some poor hard-working person gets his cheap-ass beater car wrecked through no fault of his own, but he can’t just go out and buy a new car out of petty cash, and how is he supposed to take his kids to school and get to work now?

When did the front page become Daily Kos?
Too many “Watch ...” and “Top ten ...” articles, and too few articles about oddballs/obscure cars/junkyards/modifications/DIY/insights/rants/history/... . Too much fluff, basically. As a result the demographic changes as well.

Or get a better job, or-if they REALLY love the pizza business, start their own pizza joint.

You won’t believe what happened to the front page. Read More!
Besides the click-bait no-point articles, there’s the cross-posting with whatever is climbing at Jezebel/Deadspin/Gawker which are in a competition to see who can out-assinine (is a word yes? No?) the other.

Actually here on oppo we have quite a few posts about stolen cars and attempts to retrieve them. People on here tend to care quite a bit.

That wasn’t a judgment against you guys. I thankfully haven’t had a car disappear and I know the community would help if it did. But when my belongings/money/etc. of a higher value-to-income ratio than this car disappear, all I get (even from police) is a general attitude of “serves you right for living in that neighborhood.” Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all command so much recovery assistance.
