Still awake? Good. Here’s my question: pretend you wake up one morning and all of your cars are gone. In your mailbox, you find a letter with a check for $100,000. Along with the check there is a note that says:
“You are to use this money to new cars to replace your old ones. But any car and any number of cars. You can buy any car(s) ever, as long as the total price does not exceed the amount on the check.”
I want to know: why car or car would you buy? Would you spend all of it on a new CTS-V or 4 V6 Mustangs or 20 used Miatas? Or something else? However, these cars must satisfy all of your motoring needs.
Personally, I’d go with a Ford F-150 for about $43,000 and a Chevy SS (manual, of course) for about $47,000. That puts at a total of approximately $90,000, well under the budget and with enough room to also buy an NA Miata if I wanted to. That leaves me with a good daily driver (F-150) and an awesome hoonmobile (SS).
Burnouts for your time.

Is it gonna be 4 V6 Mustangs or 20 Miatas?
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:39 |

I’d probably just get a Range Rover Sport Autobiography and be done with it.
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:39 |

I’d go the same route, but replace the truck with an ND club Miata with the bbs package. Toss in a NA Miata and I’m ready to go.
OR
A 1997-99 NSX
a 94-96 corvette
A 2016 Mazda 3 hatch.
All manual.

Now are only my 2 cars gone or is my wife’s car gone to?0
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:41 |

I'd love to choose a Miata, but I'm trying to be as realistic as possible (events like the one I mentioned happen all the time, you know). Being realistic means admitting I don't fit in Miatas.

1 NA MIATA...Restore to perfect condition as a daily.

All of them are gone. Which means you must also find suitable transportation for your spouse.
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:42 |

Damn it.
If I was smart, I’d slurp up a lot of fun 70s-90s cars, vans, and trucks while they’re still pretty cheap to get and restore.
I’d get an awesome rotating collection of DDs and some terrific ROI in the long term as they appreciate.
Or, you know, I might blow it all on a 911.
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:42 |

That’s a bummer you don’t fit. I’m 6’5” and I've managed to make my Miata fit me.

75 broke ass, 200k+ mile, beat to hell NA miatas. That’s worth like a million Oppo points right.
Yes I would invite everyone out to a broke ass NA Miata track day and whatever ones finish the race get to move on to demolition derby

BMW M3 ~ $65k

-Yellow C6 Corvette base
-BRG 1st gen XK8 Coupe

I’m going to be a bit boring: A used Tesla Model S, a used Chevy Volt, and a beater of a pickup truck. Buying used to get more bang for my buck.
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:45 |

I’d buy two SS (SSs, SSesses, EssayEssays?)..
Let’s just pretend it’s the 1960s and the SS is just called “Chevrolet”.
I’d buy two..
Crap.
Is it Chevrolets? That doesn’t look right.

Fuck. Ok, base model Nissan Micra for her ($10k) and 2015 Yukon Denali for me ($85k-ish). Cheap $5k work truck and that puts me at $100k.
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:46 |

Let me just say I'm taller than you. I'm generally good at fitting in cars (even small ones), but there becomes a point where it's just unreasonable.
![]() 08/14/2015 at 23:46 |

Do you only have to buy cars or could I use the rest for insurance/gas money?
Or Parts?
I would probably buy a $25,000 good condition Skyline R32 GTR (Or Japanese Import up to 1999) , and for the remaining 75 grand, a fully loaded to the brim 2015 Charger SRT8. That would leave me 10 grand for insurance, gas and rims. Or i’d just get a really good condition miata
The people I live with dont really have cars. My mom has no car and my stepdad has a company car.
If I had to split the $100,000 between them, I’d get both a used Lexus LS430 for $20000 and Miata for $10,000 , my mom a new car for $30,000 and my stepdad $30,000. Stepdad probably used Charger R/T, and my Mom a used Audi A4 (2011ish)

If someone took all my vehicles and left me a check for $100,000 I would be pretty pissed as I could replace roughly 2 of 5 current vehicles with 100k...

Well, first I’d have to set aside $10K to $20K for somewhere to store all of my rides, which shouldn’t be hard, as I work in the real estate field. Then, off to the list of Craig in order to find some awesome cars to fill my stable. First up, is something for the Mrs. Deal Killer, as our Town & Country is nearing the end of its life. Maybe something like this
http://toledo.craigslist.org/ctd/5171089293…
Then, it’s off to the races for me, with about $50,000 to spend on anything I want. First, I want this, Oh God do I want this.
http://toledo.craigslist.org/cto/5168018192…
Then maybe this one right here
http://toledo.craigslist.org/cto/5171675098… , I know, it’s an auto, but my left knee is for shit and I don’t want to shift anymore.
And then this little guy right here.

For me only: Use $7,000 to do stuff the Skyline or whatever import I get. Most likely an R32. Use the rest for new rims on the charger and maybe small stuff here and here. The guzzling charger would be a DD
Second Plan: scrap the miata, but $10,000 into the Lexus.

Well, I know the wife wants either a Fiesta ST in green or a White fully loaded GTI. So that leaves me plenty of money for either an ATS-V or CTS V-sport. I’d have to test drive both of the latter to decide which one I’d ultimately pick...

Another 4Runner as an off-road truck (could possibly act as a tow vehicle).
Old-ish (to be cheap) Silverado or something similar as a tow vehicle.
Probably just a Civic as the daily.
And some old Japanese performance car (Not that old but the newest allowed cars being from 1996).

All are gone? Ok, Ford Flex for my partner because that’s what he likes, and for me I think I’d snag a V8 Challenger of some sort and a used old Ford 4x4 truck. I think that would be well under 100k.

$100K? Sweet!
Replacing two mid-2000s Mazda6 sedans would probably entail....
Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring for the wife. Blue with tan interior.
A gently-used 2014+ Range Rover Sport Supercharged. Green with tan interior. Preferably from CarMax.
Depending on pricing and buying new or used on the Mazda, there could be money leftover in the budget to acquire a barn-find 1967 Mustang to restore with my wife. Or I could step down to something less fancy and new and start a restomod or get a new body-in-white 1967-style from Ford. I’d be almost as happy in my own CX-5 instead of the Range Rover.
If time travel is permitted, I’d take the $100K plus $30K of my own money, buy a Ford GT, and sell it now for double (or more) the money. Then buy a used McLaren 12C or 650S, and whatever my wife wanted.
![]() 08/15/2015 at 01:24 |

Work DD (delivering pizzas): Bugeye Outback Sport ~ $5K
Non-work DD: Lightly-modded 2016 BRZ ~ $35K
Project: Mazda RX-7 SA/FB Series III ~ $10K + $10K for rebuild/mods
Project: 3.8L New Edge Mustang ~ $7K + $8K for mods
Which leaves me with $25K, so I’d send that on to my family.
Parents: Cadillac STS to replace the dying Grand Caravan ~ $10K
Brother: 91-92 Trans Am he wishes his car was ~$7K
Sister: Bugeye Impreza for her first car ~ $5K
Last $3K I’ll keep as wiggle room for modding the BRZ, RX-7, and Stang.
