“Nobody’s posted anything in an hour, so I must post something. It doesn’t matter what it is... quick, a car picture!”

If we go without a new post for an hour, someone posts something, usually a picture or video, citing the Hour Rule as their reason for posting.

If nobody has posted something within the last hour, you post something just because you want to make sure everyone didn’t die. Usually done at night b/c that’s the only time it’s slow enough.

Seems a bit stupid

The actual rule is Post a picture of something fun/random.
Then you have to do a burn out in whatever vehicle is available.
If you get the hour rule post 3 or 4 times in a row, you better place an order for new tires.

Well, there are a couple reasons to do it. One, it bumps anybody who may be lurking Oppo and possibly busy or with nothing to say, suggesting that they drop in a “neat” or “rabble rabble” sort of acknowledgement. 2, it keeps things from getting too stale - anybody looking in for “new posts” will see ostensibly a nice car if nothing else. Tres, it helps encourage a certain posting rate - if an hour between posts is *accepted* by the community as “normal”, people are less pressured to make that post that maybe they’ve been putting off for a bit. IV, by pushing down Posts Of Oldness, it keeps people from having to play catch-up on their conversations - if something is still on the FP after six+ hours and the person who wrote it went to bed, any comments on it are likely to be one-way conversations or hijacks, and that’s less fun. E. It’s a tradition.

Thank you for asking this question. Been wondering about this for over a year.

I’ve been here for months and never known this. Thank god.
It’s sort of cool. It’s also sort of annoying, getting random posts that no one would care to read. But it depends on your reasons for coming here I guess :)
