Now, I know how to clean and maintain the tires in this picture...

But how do you clean full size car tires/wheels? I bought a set of wheels and tires for my car (a winter set) and they’re dirty. I have cleaned two of them very slowly and laboriously in my bathtub with a couple kitchen cleaners, including my usual for R/C car tires (Simple Green). While they both got the stuff off well with very little scrubbing (but a lot of work to move them around), I started wondering how Opponauts clean their dirty wheels/tires...

I should get one of those. But I'd also need a yard. :-/

You definately should. Why do you need a yard though?

Any good degreaser, a stiff nylon brush and hosepipe. Spray on, agitate with nylon brush and rinse. The water will come away very brown even when not visibly dirty, repeat till you are happy they are as clean and the water is as clear as your okay with.

Bilt Hamber Surfex HD degreaser is strong water based degreaser and can be watered down to suit your needs. Works great on all surfaces.

I need to go fire up the Slayer again. Did you ever do any racing?

I did a lot of racing when I lived near tracks, just can’t justify the 120+ mile round trip for club racing now...

A specific tire brush(really stiff) and either a specific tire cleaner(best choice) or a strong degreaser/APC

For wheels there’s so many options.....

Though I don’t know that it actually cleans the tires. Otherwise though, they’re riding around in the dirt, gravel, and road debris. I’ve got more important things to do with my time.

I use dawn and warm water. Scrub with a used toothbrush and rinse.

Works great for me. Even when I hit a pile of dog doo :)

any all purpose cleaner with a stiff bristle brush for the tires. they can handle pretty much anything.

for wheels... if they need more than what i can do with a sponge and car wash soap, then the best product i have used is SONAX full effect wheel cleaner (or something like that). its not cheap... but it’ll clean the hell out of your wheels. its safe on all painted and polished surfaces, and will dissolve the iron from your brake pads that has gotten itself into your wheel finish.

smells like cat piss though. and it aint cheap. but its honestly the best i’ve used. check youtube videos for detailer’s domain. he has some good videos on the stuff in practice.
