Been there...400 square feet of floor tiles. Took me weeks to pull up the old grout, sacrificing a flat head screwdriver on the alter of She Who Must Be Obeyed. (apparently the color wasn't quite RIGHT the first time)

I had a couple loose tiles, apparently the builder felt the best way to level the kitchen floor was a 1”+ or mortar on top of the subfloor. That would explain why they were all in high traffic areas.
