The same grandpa I always talk highly of here. He was in the car above, riding shotgun. A 40-some yr old lady hit the car, despite not having the right of way. Everyone is ok though.
Grandpa and two guys were returning from a day of golf. Both cars were totaled, and the Ford above had all airbags go off. Which apparently also melted his brand new shirt. After that, he just finished his Frosty from Wendy’s while waiting for the flatbed. There’s a lesson here; Frosties are serious business.
The hospital just release my grandpa, they kept him last because he took the brunt of the hit. But clearly he has Chuck Norris blood in his veins, which is why he seemed unfazed. There's a reason he's my hero.

Glad everyone is okay!

Good thing the towing company does tire changes, because that’s definitely what is needed here.
Seriously; glad to hear that everyone is ok.

Yep, me too. Gramps is awesome, I hold him in high regard. So I’ll have to bug him tomorrow asking the GM retiree how he likes the Safety of Ford vehicles, :).

Thank goodness he’s alright. Make sure to stress that if he gets random dizzy spells or nausea in the coming week or two, he should get fully checked again, ASAP.

I know that feel, girl cut in front of me deciding she didn’t need to give right of way to me even though I had the green light. Glad your gramps is ok!
![]() 08/04/2015 at 23:13 |

Hey, if it didn’t cause the crash itself, it’s already a step ahead :) Really though, you should milk Wendy’s for more Frosties, because that shit survived a car crash.

The rim can be saved, right?
Though at least you can still tell that this was a Ford. I got a pic of the other car too, but the front is so mangled I can’t tell what it is.

I’m glad grandpatestpilot is doing well after what looks like a pretty solid hit. It’s amazing what people can walk away from these days. If they had been in an old car the story might have been different.

That your truck? I guess Fords are super safe then!

He should be the new spokesperson for them. They need a grumpy, sarcastic old guy, :).
![]() 08/04/2015 at 23:18 |

I think he'd be more upset if it was his car, he just leased a Cadillac crossover, lol.

I’ll harass him first about it, but I’ll do it, :).

Damn, automotive engineers are getting good. This is a lot of damage, yet the car is mostly intact and there’s no intrusion in the cabin.
We are living in a good era for safety.
Glad to hear that everyone was okay. Hopefully there are no lingering effects.

It is! Fixed now though. And I must say, while I love love my old truck, I am happy safety features in cars have come so far.

Glad to hear that your grandpa made it out fairly ok. What hit them?

You could say safety, but gramps has this curse/blessing that whenever he’s near something, it works perfectly. When he’s not there, it doesn’t work. Plus he thinks your crazy when you say it doesn't work yet it works for him.

Whatever this is. I seriously can’t tell. It’s white though....

I have the same effect on a lot of things... Mechanical things, electronic things, computers... Nobody can reproduce problems around me.
![]() 08/04/2015 at 23:29 |

I have the opposite problem. I find problems that no one knows how to fix or deal with, :).

2006-2010 Toyota Sienna. That thing got really crunched.

Huh, I just got thinking. For that amount of damaged, she had to have a lot of speed. It looks like she just ran the intersection. Or, her part of the story, she claimed she stopped first before going. It the latter “is” true, she’s negligent because she would of slammed the gas after braking...which makes her seem like a horrible driver...
![]() 08/04/2015 at 23:40 |
|
She had to have maintained her speed. I’m gonna guess she was distracted somehow.

Thanks the NHTSA and IIHS for the standards Ford and every other automaker incorporate in their safety standards.
I’m happy to hear the car protected your gramps as intended

My mother was in a side impact crash ~20 years ago where the other guy failed to stop at a stop sign. She was in a ‘94 Taurus and walked away perfectly fine. This was before side air bags, too.
Ford does seem to make tough vehicles.

Glad that everyone is ok. My Grandmother died after being t-boned sort of like this. For as much as we complain about the added weight and cost, it’s really a good thing that modern cars are so much safer.

Glad everyone (and the Frostee) was OK.
The Escape did a valiant job sacrificing itself for the good of its occupants. $kaycog (also an Escape owner) would be proud.
I guess one could say everyone but the car escaped with only shaken nerves.

good to hear all okay.

Me as well, :).

It'll be interesting to see what pans out from all this...

Makes me wonder if Ford has higher than normal safety features on there cars, or if it's just excellent strokes of luck each time.
![]() 08/05/2015 at 06:15 |

I'm impressed it took that much damaged and remained that intact. Must of hit the engine block, which prevented further damage.

Can I write a letter to them then? :).

just a scratch.
![]() 08/05/2015 at 06:21 |

Sorry to hear about your grandma, :(. Cars are much safer, plus laws help as well. All three guys were wearing their safety belts too.
![]() 08/05/2015 at 11:07 |

Actually if the airbags on the Sienna popped, which it appears they did, the van’s black box would have recorded all of the details about the crash including speed, and whether or not the brakes were applied.

Glad to here your grandpa is okay.

Me too! The lady had a stop light and a sign. She also claimed my gramps car was going too fast....when they had the right of way? Anything to escape a ticket eh?
![]() 08/06/2015 at 12:09 |
|
Did they get the ticket in the end? Chances are the police can check data from the black boxes on both cars to figure out who is at fault. Btw how do I get out of the grey?

You have to either get authorship privileges, or be liked by the blog, in this case oppo. MrsZtp doesn’t have authorship of lald, but is liked by them. I just have authorship on a plethora of blogs, I just frequent a few of them, :).
And I'm pretty sure she will. :)
![]() 08/06/2015 at 17:28 |
|
Can anyone give authorship or just the administrators can?
![]() 08/06/2015 at 17:36 |
|
Admins only. unfortunently, I am not a admin here. Umm, the only admin I can even think of is $kaycog.
Oppo does have some posts asking if anyone wants authorship, a monthly post I think. If you google for it, you may find that post. If you wish, in a couple of hours I can make a request post for you. I’m about to commute home for 40 minutes, lol.

Scratch that, before I left I quickly checked.
